Today’s Resurrection Sunday. Christ is risen, and He is risen indeed! Luke 24, verses 5 and 6: «Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, 'Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen. Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee? '»
On the first day of the week, the women who had followed Jesus from Galilee to Jerusalem set off to the newly carved tomb where Joseph of Arimathea had buried the body of Jesus. They were carrying spices and fragrant oils for the body, and they were saddened and upset by the events of the previous day, by what had happened on Friday.
They got to the tomb and found, to their shock, that the stone had been rolled away. Even more shocking, the seal that was laid on the stone by the Roman authorities to ensure that nobody would tamper with it was broken. Furthermore, the soldiers who were there to prevent intruders from taking the body of Jesus were nowhere to be found. These women were shocked. «What’s going on? We saw Him buried here; we saw this is the tomb; we saw the stone rolled; we saw everything, but nobody’s here!»
To their greatest admiration, these women had the courage to enter the tomb. When they entered the tomb, to their biggest shock, the body of Jesus was not there. They wondered, «What is going on?» As they were wondering, two angels appeared to them and said, «Why are you seeking the living among the dead? He’s not here; He’s risen.» That is the greatest news of all time: Jesus, who died, is now risen. Jesus, who was brought down by the powers of evil, is now alive and risen with the power of God.
The resurrection morning was the greatest news not only for these women but for the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ and for all of us throughout all time. The greatest news on Earth: Jesus is alive! Jesus is risen, and He is risen to die no more. The resurrection of Jesus was very different from other people who had come back from the dead. Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead, died again. Others who had come back from the dead also died again. But Jesus came back from the dead and is still alive.
He lives to give us life. In Him, we have life; in Him, we have victory; in Him, we have triumph. In the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we triumph over Satan, over principalities, and over all powers. In the resurrection of Jesus, we triumph over sickness and disease and every work of the enemy, including the virus that wants to attack our bodies. In the resurrection of Jesus, we triumph over the spirit of fear and every spirit of panic. In the resurrection of Jesus, we triumph over every evil agenda set against us.
No weapon formed against you shall prosper, because the weapons formed against Jesus did not prosper; they will not prosper against you. You will rise; you will win; you will triumph- not because you are the smartest person, but because you have the greatest Lord of all. His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, and because of His resurrection, we triumph over poverty, limited resources, and everything that wants to hold you back.
On this Resurrection Sunday morning, may the freedom of Christ be yours. May the liberty of Christ be yours. May the life of Christ be imparted to you. May you walk triumphant over every situation. Because Jesus lives, we shall live also. Because Jesus lives, we live; we triumph in Him. We live and move and have our being.
You can tell I’m excited-yes, I am-because Jesus is alive! Let’s share a word of prayer. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, today I arise with Jesus. I am a brand new person in Christ. I walk in victory -victory over every situation. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.»
