Mensa Otabil - Bind and Loose

Mensa Otabil - Bind and Loose
TOPICS: Word to Go, Authority

Welcome to day number 18 of our 40 days of power, and we trust God that you are experiencing Him and His glory is shining all over you. Today, we’re talking about one of the authorities that God has given us to bind and to loose. Matthew chapter 18, verse 18 states, «Assuredly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.» The authority to bind and to loose is invested in the church. Individuals can do it, but it is the authority of the church, and it’s exercised in the prayer of agreement when more than one believer is praying and they have come together in agreement.

So, what does it mean to bind? To bind means to forbid or to prohibit. The idea is related to a person who is chained and restrained from doing something. The Bible says that we can stop some things from happening; we can prevent certain situations. We have the authority to bind, to prohibit, to forbid, and to stop some occurrences.

And what does it mean to loose? To loose means to release or to allow; it refers to someone who is free from any bondage. So, whereas binding means we can stop some things from happening, loosing means we can allow some things to happen. We can stop the power of evil from manifesting, and we can release the power of the Holy Spirit to manifest. When we do that, we are loosing the Holy Spirit; we are allowing and giving liberty for the Holy Spirit to move among us.

Many times, Christians become frightened by the power of evil spirits and spend a lot of time wandering and running away from them. However, we can forbid evil spirits from operating and manifesting, and we can allow the Holy Spirit to operate and manifest. One way we pray in agreement is when we pray together. When someone offers a prayer and we all say «Amen,» it is not a full stop to the prayer; «Amen» signifies agreement: «I agree; I am in line with you.»

So, though one person is praying, all who say «Amen» have come into agreement with that prayer. At that moment, the prayer encompasses not just one person’s request, but all the people who said «Amen» and their prayers. When we come into that agreement, we can forbid certain things and permit others. So, I can stand in agreement with you this morning, and in the name of Jesus, I bind and forbid every evil spirit from manifesting and operating in your vicinity, in your home, and in your surroundings. If you agree, say «Amen» to that.

And by that same authority, I loose the power of the Holy Spirit to work around you and to move wherever you are. May the power of God be released into operation, and if you agree, say «Amen» to that. Yes, that’s how we bind and that’s how we loose. Now, let’s say a word of prayer together. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, I join in agreement with everyone listening today. We loose the spirit of faith; we loose the gifts of healing; we loose the working of miracles into manifestation in Jesus' name. Amen.» And if you believe that, we have bound and we have loosed. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
