Fears that they’ve fought for years immediately leave when they embrace the holy fear of God. Why? Because you are no longer yours, and you’re no longer responsible for you; He now is responsible. All right, you just read Chapter 37. Let’s go a little deeper. You know, Jesus made a statement that things would be so terrifying and even fearful in the last days that men’s hearts would fail them for what’s coming on the earth. I think it’s a very sobering time that we’re entering into, and what’s going to protect us and deliver us from the fears that other people are going through is none other than the fear of the Lord.
I like to say the fear of the Lord is the fear that eliminates all other fears. Not only do I say that from Scripture, but almost all of our church fathers and mothers have made the statement that the person who fears God has no other fear because the fear of God swallows up all other fears. If you look at what God says through the prophet Isaiah, the Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. He said, «Don’t call everything a conspiracy like they do, and don’t live in dread of what frightens them. Make the Lord of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear; He is the one who should make you tremble. He will keep you safe.»
So we see some promises here—two distinct ones: in fearing God, it delivers us from all other fears, and in fearing God, it keeps us safe. Now listen to what He said: «I will keep you safe.» That’s what He said through the prophet. Can you imagine if the president of the United States said, «I’m going to give all of our armed forces, every single general, orders to protect you,» and you had the best of the armed forces around you wherever you went? That’s not nearly as good as God saying, «I will keep you safe.»
So one of the promises of God that you can trust in is that He will keep you safe. Now, how do we know we’re really, truly walking in the fear of God? We will walk free from all other fears. God spoke this to me, and He said to me one day, «Son,» because I had a lot of fear for my sons due to my traveling so much. In the midst of that, God didn’t come along and say, «Son, I’m so sorry you’re battling these fears. I’m so empathetic to your suffering.» He didn’t say that to me. He said, «Son, do you want to know why you fear in this area?» I said, «Why?» He said, «Because any area you haven’t given to Me, you haven’t submitted under the cross; you still own it. Therefore, you have to protect it.» I went, «Oh my goodness!»
I remember where I was staying; I was actually in the middle of taking off my shoes after the service that night. I started yelling my kids' names out and said, «They are not mine; they’re Yours.» I said, «God, You can do whatever You want with those children,» and I declared, «But devil, you’re not touching them in Jesus' name.» Now, what am I doing there? I’m committing them to God and establishing the promise that thief, you’re not going to kill, steal, and destroy our sons. Now that created a peace that surpassed all understanding, and to be quite honest with you, I’ve never feared for our sons since.
So I’ve experienced it; I’ve actually experienced freedom from fear. I can’t tell you how many people, when they’ve entered into the fear of the Lord, have eradicated fears that they fought for years. Fears that they’ve fought for years immediately leave when they embrace the holy fear of God. Why? Because you are no longer yours, and you’re no longer responsible for you; He now is responsible. All you’re responsible to do is to execute the promises in this earth, to speak the promises in this earth, and to establish the promises in this earth for your life and for your family.
