What’s so important about this course is that we are developing you to be hearers of God so you can be proper ambassadors of the Kingdom you have chosen so wisely. Through this course on hearing God, I believe that it will shape your life. I think you now see, after going through all the lessons, that we are setting up parameters for the Holy Spirit to uniquely establish the way He speaks to you. I mean, Hebrews chapter 1—I love this scripture: «God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in times past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.»
Well, He still speaks in different manners, at various times, and in various ways. I think that is what you’re seeing, and now you have tools to recognize how He speaks to you. Remember, it is really important that you don’t lose sight of the fact that there are times when God will speak through your authorities—the people He has put over your life to protect, serve, help, lead, and guide you in this wonderful journey of life. It could be a pastor, a parent, etc. There are times that God will speak to you in various ways, as we’ve discussed, directly to you—whether it’s through scripture, dreams, visions, or whatever He chooses. Also, recognize the inward witness even in everyday life; learn that many times in nature, He’ll speak to you inside, showing you things that teach you from the Word of God.
What’s so important about this course is that we are developing you to be hearers of God so you can be proper ambassadors of the Kingdom. You’re not an effective messenger of the Kingdom unless you know the King’s heart and the King’s ways. The whole goal was to set you up to know His heart and His ways. The Bible says, «Don’t be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.» If God says that to us, it means He wants us to know what His will is.
So, don’t get frustrated; you may fall down. The Bible says a righteous person falls seven times and gets back up, while the unrighteous fall and stay down, never getting back up. This is not true of you, so don’t be scared to fall down a few times. Think back to when you were a little child learning how to ride a bicycle. When your dad finally took off the training wheels, you fell, scraped your knee, and got frustrated. But today, you can get on a two-wheel bicycle and enjoy riding through your community, appreciating the views. This is what the Holy Spirit wants you to do: not be afraid to fail.
When you’re sharing with someone, you become a messenger. Say, «I think that God put this in my heart,» and share it that way. Don’t say, «God told me» or «Thus saith the Lord,» as it puts people in a tough place and can hinder your ability to hear from God. He speaks to those who walk in love. We speak the truth in love, as Paul said, and that’s what causes us to grow up. Anything the Lord shares with you, don’t dominate or manipulate people with it. You’re a messenger; state it as He gave it to you, oozing with love, concern, and care for that person.
This is our goal at Messenger International: to create messengers. Messengers are disciples who realize they are ambassadors. It’s one thing to be a child of God, part of the family of God; it’s another to be a citizen of the Kingdom. This is all geared toward helping you be an effective child, but also an effective citizen and ambassador of the Kingdom. So, go over these lessons time and again. Don’t just go through it once; review it again and again. You will notice that as you pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you, little different nuggets will come out each time you watch this entire course on hearing God. It has been a real pleasure to serve you, and just as we all have served you—from Addison and Lisa to Rabbi Brian and others—please serve those in your world of influence.
