TD Jakes - The Spirit speaks Expressly (04/30/2017)
The preacher urges believers to quiet their busy lives to hear the Holy Spirit's inner voice, using Romans 8 to explain how the Spirit helps our weaknesses by interceding with groanings, searching our hearts, and aligning prayers with God's perfect will—leading to deeper communion, true discernment, and freedom from limited human understanding.
The Challenge of Hearing the Holy Spirit
That is probably the best of us that we have been taught. But what my concern is, is that many of us have never responded to the impulse of the Holy Spirit because most of us have never been taught to listen to our inner voice. And the majority of us are so busy trying to survive that we do not have time to find a calm place.
Living in a Tsunami vs. Still Waters
Because if He is my Shepherd—and He is—He is going to lead me by still waters to restore my soul. And most of us are living in a tsunami every day. So if you are going to make this class really maximize in your spirit, you are going to have to calm things down a bit and not use the calmness to generate offsprings of depression but to, as the Scripture said, in quietness and confidence possess ye your soul.
Using Quiet Time to Possess Your Soul
In the quiet you get a grip on who you are. Use the quiet time to get a grip on who you are—a sense of yourself, of your God, of your destiny and your purpose.
Hearing the Enemy vs. Hearing God
And not always respond—because I am going to tell you something funny about most people in this room. Most people in this room hear the devil better than we hear God. You hear the enemy telling you, wonder what is going on with so-and-so. What is up with so-and-so? You know you are getting old. You know your mama died when she got that age.
You hear—you get all of that real good. Nobody is in the room but you, but you can hear that. If you can hear evil—okay, I am going to try not to belabor the point, but you get where I am coming from.
Giving the Holy Spirit Equal Time
Something in you as a Christian ought to insist and say, wait a minute, at least let me give the other fella equal time. Now the ultimate goal is to shut down the devil altogether where you can hear it, respond to nothing but the Holy Spirit. But let us just start in the kindergarten—at least give the Holy Spirit equal time as a bare minimum.
Responding to Inner Prompts
Is there anything in you telling you to pray during those quiet times? Is there anything in you saying study your Word while you have got some time to yourself? Is there anything unctioning you into the presence of the Lord or telling you to pray or telling you to pray in your prayer language? Oh, this is a good night to lay in the bed and pray in tongues and commune with the Holy Spirit and get a good grip on your soul.
Discerning the Voice of the Spirit
So if that were not enough to grasp—and I could spend another Wednesday night and another Wednesday night and another Wednesday night opening up your channel of communication so that you can hear what the Holy Spirit is saying—I would love to do an advanced class on it and show you how when the Holy Spirit speaks down inside of you, how to discern when it is a word from God.
Order and Control in Spiritual Expression
And that you do not necessarily have to deliver the whole message in tongues—that you could just stand up and say, thus saith the Lord. Once you get it clear, we do not necessarily have to have all of the theatrics to get the message. I could share with you that the Lord can give Pastor Robinson a message and give me a message at the same time, and He can have the power to hold his while I am speaking so that you can be edified because God is not the author of confusion.
I can show you that if it is in fact the Holy Spirit, the spirit of the prophet is subject to the prophet. So this stuff where you go out of control and knock three people in the eye and find yourself five pews back and black somebody in the eye and kick somebody in the leg just to tell us He is coming back again—I mean, really, dawg? That is it. You took up 25 minutes in the service and punched three people in the mouth to tell me Jesus is coming back? Really? Okay.
The Holy Spirit as a Cell Phone in Your Bosom
Now the notion of the speaking phase evolves around this one principle. You got a cell phone. Who has got a cell phone? Somebody got a cell phone. Okay, here is a cell phone, and we have dealt with if the cell phone is a metaphor for the Holy Spirit—and like Urim and Thummim—it is in my bosom.
We know that when God gets ready to get a message to us, He can ring in, okay, and He can ring in a message to us. Now we are going to talk about how the Holy Spirit dwells in you so that He can ring out.
The Spirit Speaks In, For, and Through You
The same Holy Spirit that says thus saith the Lord—it is the same Holy Spirit that cries out Abba Father from the inside of you. You understand what I am saying? And we are going to talk about—this is going to be good. Oh God, this is going to be good as red-hot-on-chillens. I tell you, bless God. Y'all do not know nothing about that. Y'all do not know nothing about that. Y'all young people do not know nothing about nothing but Burger King. Is this good?
Go to Romans 8. Let us start the discussion in Romans 8. On your way to it, just look at somebody and tell them the Spirit speaks. See, if you would take that muzzle off of the Holy Spirit's mouth, He would speak in you, for you, and through you.
He would speak in you. He would speak for you. He would speak through you. Many of you—the Holy Spirit has already put a heavenly language down inside of you. You can hear it in your spirit, but you lean to your flesh and you speak in English when the Holy Spirit is trying to speak out of your mouth.
He wants to speak through you. He wants to speak for you. I am going to tell you later—if I do not forget—I am going to tell you later about a time in my life that the Holy Spirit spoke for me and literally cleansed my spirit of something that I could not get out of me no other kind of way.
Somebody came here to minister, and they did not even know what was going on inside of me. And in that moment of worship when the Holy Spirit began to speak up out of me, He washed my spirit of a brokenness and a debris I could never get out of myself—the Spirit of God. I love Wednesday night. This is my thing right here.
Creation Groaning and Our Waiting
Romans 8:22 says we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit—even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of the body.
We know that. Romans 8:24 says we know that hope that is seen is not hope, for what man seeth, why does he yet hope for it? So we are saved by hope. And I could get into all of this, but it is irrelevant to what I am teaching. But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
The Spirit Helps Our Infirmities
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities—underline that—the Spirit helpeth our craziness. The Holy Spirit helps your brokenness. He wants to help you, not hide you. He wants to help you. He came in knowing your infirmities—your weaknesses, your compulsive behaviors, your emotional disorders, your burdens, your unresolved issues, your questions, your circumstances, your extenuating circumstances, your dilemmas, your complications. You know you complicate it.
So the Holy Spirit has come in to help you. He has come in to help you. He has come in to help you.
Demonstrating the Helper Alongside
Come here, brother. Yeah, pick up the chair and bring it here. Now I do not know how much it weighs. Hold it up. Hold it up. Hold it up. I do not know how much it weighs, but if he holds it long enough, he is going to get tired.
Now what he does not realize as he bears this chair alone is that I am standing alongside to help him. But if he does not allow me to lift the chair for him, he will carry by himself something, never recognizing that I was here to help him all the time. You see, I am standing alongside to help him. That is what the Holy Spirit is in you. He stands alongside to help you.
Understanding Allos Paracletus
The term is paracletus—allos paracletus. All the ladies know what allos is because you see it in your lotion. And it means that the cells of the allos plant are so similar to your cells that when they use it in the lotion, it rejuvenates your skin cells because it is another of the same kind.
So when you talk about the Holy Spirit being allos, you are saying that He is another of the same kind. All the men know what paracletus is—from paracleats on loading docks. You know that big hook thing that enables you to lift more weight than what you ought to be able to lift, but you can lift it because you have a paraclete.
The paraclete uses leverage so that a man who would not be able to lift the crate is now able to lift the crate because he is using the strength of the paraclete. So when you start talking about the Holy Spirit, which the Bible says Jesus said I will send you another comforter—another comforter is allos paracletus—another of the same kind who stands along to help you lift stuff that you could not lift on your own.
Are you with me? So when the Bible says likewise also the Spirit helpeth our infirmities—that is God saying why are you holding up that chair when I am standing alongside to help? Y'all quiet tonight. Feel like a little conviction or something in here.
We Know Not What to Pray For
Now this is why He stands alongside to help. In Romans 8:22 it talks about what we know. It breaks about what we know—that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain until now. In Romans 8:26 it talks about what we do not know—the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities, for we know not what we should pray for as we ought.
That is why He is standing alongside to help your infirmities—because He wants to help your ignorance with His intelligence. And I did not glamorize Him by calling Him intelligent nor insult you by calling you ignorant. I am not saying that you are stupid. I am just saying that you do not have the ability to access all the information you need to make all the decisions you need to make, and the Holy Spirit wants to give you intelligence that you do not have so that you can make better choices.
Examples of Human Ignorance in Prayer
And He is saying we know not what to pray for as we ought. Have you ever thought you knew what ought to be done and you kept talking to everybody until they did what you said and it messed up? Can we be—come on, just nobody here but me and you.
And you got—that is what happened with Sarah and this babe Hagar. She said, Abraham, do not worry about nothing. I got it all worked out. You know I am not able to produce a child, but I got this chick over here. She is going to hook you up. It is going to be good. We are going to have this baby. We are going down the road and do our business. And she was cool with it until the girl got pregnant, and she was running around in the house, and Sarah was looking at her and saying no, I know you did not.
Sometimes we do not know what to ask for. You fall out with people you should have kept. You kept people you should have fell out with. If you live long enough, you find out you are not nearly as smart as you thought you were.
Wanting the Same Things Yet Failing
And the Bible says we know not what to pray for as we ought. And it is not that we are evil—we all—there is not a person in this room that does not want to live happily ever after. There is not a person in this room that do not want to be loved. There is not a person in this room that does not want to be healthy. There is not a person in this room that does not want things to turn out all right.
Is not it the craziest thing how we could all want the same stuff and not be able to pull it off to save our life? Have you ever thought about that? I have never seen a divorcing couple on the show who got married hoping they would divorce. They really do. They both want to be loved. They both want to be respected. They both want to be heard. They both want to be appreciated.
But how can we want the same stuff and never be able to pull it off? It is a mystery to me. But that is the way life is. And you look around and you pushed away people you should have kept. You kept people you should have pushed away.
Living with Guilt and Self-Judgment
And generally half the world is over before you recognize that you have a degree of ignorance. And you do not admit that to anybody. But you know—you just walk around looking all important and smart. Have you ever seen a baby walking around smiling with a dirty diaper? That is the way you is—about 45 or so people going.
Everybody who gets to know you real good and gets past that smile—they catch that whiff, and they are out of there. They say that chick crazy, dude. It is just the illustrations the Lord gives me on the spot. Do not be jealous of these great spiritual intellectual illustrations that I give, but they work for me.
Yeah. And then you live with the guilt of not being enough. You live with the guilt of not being enough—not enough father, not enough husband, not enough Christian, not enough mama, not enough wife. And you beat yourself up.
The Spirit's Groanings for Us
And the Bible is saying here we do not even know what to pray for because how in the world can you figure out what is wrong with me? And you cannot even figure out what is wrong with you. I never could understand that—how you could be so smart about what I needed to do and so dumb about what you needed to do. Is not that amazing to me? It just blows my mind—these deep people who got a word from the Lord for my life. Why did not you have a word for the Lord? I am just asking. I am not accusing nobody. I am just saying.
The truth of the matter is we know not what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit itself—let me, because I do not want to misquote a word of it because it is so good. It is so good. I do not want to miss it.
We know not—likewise, for we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
And then it tells us that the Spirit is down there on the inside of you—even when your lips are closed—pleading for you, groaning for you. Groaning—have you ever been in a hospital? You heard somebody groaning over, and then they go—you could not even see them, but you could hear—oh—that is true. You know something was going on.
That sound is going on in your soul—then the groaning going up in the Spirit down on the inside for you—groanings and moanings that you cannot even express. Think of it—you did not lose your mind because the Spirit was down on the inside—oh, she is in a high place—oh, oh—and you at work talking about welcome to JCPenney. Nobody knows it down on the inside.
Does it—oh—the witch knew it. The demons know it. Hell knows it. You have got an intercessor down on the inside interceding on your behalf—even while you are asleep in the bed at night. You should have been dead in your sleep.
Inexpressible Pain and the Spirit's Groaning
And then we will forget—when my brother and sister and I were closing my mother's casket and the whole room started spinning, and I thought I was going to pass out, and I could feel my knees getting weak, and I wanted to scream—I got ready to just start screaming, just screaming, just screaming, just screaming.
And I could hear my mother's voice say what good would it do? What good would it do? So I did not scream, but not screaming did not mean I did not bleed. See, just because you do not utter it does not mean you do not carry it.
Oh, you should hear the things I said nothing about. One of these days I am going to write a book about the things I said nothing about. I just bore it—in inexpressible groanings.
But yet that needs to be vented, and down on the inside the Holy Spirit—oh—groaning when you cannot groan for yourself. It is what one translation calls inexpressible groanings.
Now let me do this disclaimer—you have to have lived through some stuff to understand what I just said. So if that did not resonate with you, do not judge me. You have to have had a pain that reached so far off the Richter scale that your lips were intimidated to articulate the magnitude of how hurt you really were. I started to say something, but what good would it do?
The Spirit Searches Our Hearts
So watch this—the Spirit is groaning and interceding with things I cannot even articulate, and I do not even know what to pray for. And then it tells me the central intelligence of the Holy Spirit—and He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit.
Now there are two different levels of information—He that searcheth the heart knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit. That is two different intelligence.
He that searcheth the heart means that the Holy Spirit lives in me so He can search me—oh, search me, Lord. Oh, search me, Lord. Oh, you just turn that light from heaven on my soul. Oh, if you find anything that should not be, take it out and straighten me. I want to be right. I want to be saved. I want to be whole. Search me, Lord.
Y'all do not know nothing about that. I am old-school. I cannot help it.
The Holy Spirit searches you—searches your heart. He searches your heart. He searches your heart. He knows that little boy in you. He knows that little girl in you. He knows why you feel the way you are. He knows what happened to you. He knows what you went through. He knows things that you do not even understand.
He has searched your heart like Google searches the World Wide Web. He has searched your heart like a search engine searches a dictionary. And when He searches you, He knows all about you. He knows things about you that you do not know about yourself.
Oh, bless His high name. He that searcheth the heart—hallelujah—people who say they know you, they do not know you. How could you know me? I do not even know me. I do not know myself. I do not know myself.
But the Holy Spirit has searched my heart. So when He intercedes, He is not interceding with limited information. He is dealing with the whole panoramic view of everything that was and is and will be in my life.
Dual Intelligence of the Spirit
He that searcheth the heart knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit—though the two different intelligence. He has the intelligence of who I am and why I am and what I am and where I am and how I feel—better than I do—because sometimes I know not. I do not know. I wake up supposing—I think—oh, I just do not know. I do not know. I do not know.
He that searcheth the heart also knoweth the mind of the Spirit. I can tell right now I am not going to get very far. I am moving too slow. But He knoweth—He knows me thoroughly, and He knows God thoroughly because He is God. He is one with God. He is not seeking to know the mind of God concerning me. He knows the mind of God concerning me. And He knows me. Who could intercede for you any better than that?
Look at you—do not make me call CIA. I got a central intelligence agent who understands my kind of crazy, my kind of situation, my kind of circumstance—even when you cannot figure me out. And I admit it—sometimes I cannot figure me out.
But the Holy Spirit knoweth my heart. He has searched my heart. He understands what being raised how I was raised, when I was raised, in the circumstance I was raised—what it did to me, what had happened to me, what is biological, what is experiential, what is emotional, what is psychological.
The Holy Spirit did not have to lay me on the couch and ask me a question. He already knows. He is already searched. He already understands. He can be touched by the feeling of my infirmity. Oh, bless His high name. That is what I am talking about. Oh my God. Oh my God. This is something.
Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth? When you start talking about the Holy Spirit—He searched me. There was not a corner—there was not a corner my wickedness could hide in that He did not search. He searched me—not one fleck of pain escaped His perusal. He searched me.
He that searcheth the heart—He that searcheth the heart—oh, glory to God. That is why I serve Him. That is why I have been with Him all of these years. He understands the mystery of me. He is the only one who has got me figured out. I figured I would follow Him back home since He knew the road to get me out of this mess I am in. He knows!
Humility Before One Who Truly Knows Us
People scare me. It make me nervous because we are just like a bunch of patients in a sane asylum pointed at each other talking about you crazy. That is the way they are. Whoever you are talking about—how dare you be saying anything about anybody as crazy as you are? You ought to humble down and be trying to help everybody.
There are many stupid things that you have done. How dare you look down your nose at anybody? I mean, come on, dude. Can we be real? I am talking about you because you are eating chocolate cake and I am eating chocolate ice cream. I am talking about how could you do something like that? Please. I am going to get out of my face.
But I have someone who has searched me and known me. And the amazing thing about it—with all of that information—He still loves me. It do not get no better than that. Oh God. Oh God. Oh God. Y'all need another teacher because I am about to flip my wig in here.
The Spirit Knows What Matters
He that searcheth the heart knows what is the mind of the Spirit. He is not guessing at what the mind of the Spirit is. He is Spirit. He knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit—knows exactly what.
Oh gosh, I am not going to get nowhere. This is something. You see, He knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit. He knows what matters and He knows what does not matter. You would be surprised at the stuff you are worried about that does not matter. If it does not affect your destiny, does it really matter? Think about it.
Learning What Truly Matters Over Time
You parents that have multiple children—do not you do a better job with the younger ones than you did the first ones? Because when you raise the first kid, you make issues about stuff that later on you find out it really did not matter. It is really not as important as you thought it was. By the time you get down to the last one, a whole lot of stuff you do not say nothing about because you are just starting to figure out that all that stuff you was fussing about did not make any sense.
A lot of stuff that the Lord allows to go on—He allows it to go on because it does not affect His purpose. And you are all upset about something that really do not make no difference. I am about to walk out this door. I mean, really do not make any difference.
Dr. James and a bunch of us was sitting around the house having dinner, and I think I can get it right. We were talking about the Word of God, and she said—I noticed in the Word something to this effect—I noticed in the Word that God was not moved by anything that did not affect the transporting of His seed. Am I pretty close to how you said it? Yeah.
As long as the seed got passed so that the purpose could be accomplished—y'all cannot handle this. Y'all cannot handle none of this. As long as—it does not matter whether we went by camel. It does not matter whether we had to walk. It does not matter whether they had to go over this or go over that. It does not matter whether you use this one died. He said that is all right. I will do it through that one. This one fell off out of way. This one fell in the sand. He let that pass by—as long as His purpose. That is too grown for y'all. I cannot do that.
As long as His purpose—He knows what is the mind and the Spirit. I better get out of there. That is grown folks talk. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The Journey to Destiny
So a lot of stuff you have the big fit about—you later find out that was not important. I never forget one day I was talking to Jerry Jones, and he was talking to me about the Cowboys, and he said when the Cowboys started their season every year, he said I make this speech. He said being one of the Cowboys is like going for the gold rush in California on the wagon train.
He said the folks who start—as you move across the country—some would settle and decide they are not going to California. Others would join who were not a part. Some would die. Some would get killed by the Indians. Some of them would go through all kinds of stuff.
He said but when they finally reach California, they would say we have arrived. He said and I am telling you—he said the same guys that are wearing this uniform—some will make it and some will not. New ones will be brought in and some will be dropped. But when we finally arrive, they will say the Cowboys have arrived.
If you keep living—some will join, some will fall off, some will settle for something else, some will come on the bandwagon in the middle. But when it is all said and done—when you get to California—we arrive. All that stuff that happened in between—y'all cannot handle this.
When the Spirit prays, He does not pray in alignment with what you think. He prays in alignment with what God has ordained. And anything that would threaten what God has ordained for your life—He arrests it, He rebukes it, He stops it, He takes over.
All that little stuff that happened all the way—we had to circle the wagons, we got shot at, we ran out of food—all of that stuff do not make any difference because this too shall pass.
Trusting the Spirit's Guidance Like GPS
I was riding down the road the other day going someplace I did not know. I got so mad at my GPS I almost choked it because I was riding down the road and I was not sure where I was going, and the girl would not say nothing.
It took me the longest time to realize that if she was not saying nothing—keep on driving. If there was something that was going to get you on the wrong road, the Holy Spirit will speak up. If it is going to affect your destiny, the Holy Spirit will fix it.
The GPS do not say nothing about turn the radio down, roll the window up, it is too cold in here, honk your horn—who does he think he is cutting in front of you? You know why? It do not have nothing to do with the destiny that you have in your life. So you need to shut up and be still and know that God is God.
Touch three people and say it is about to get good in here. It is about to get good in here.
The Discerning Scalpel of God's Word
Turn over to Hebrews 4:12 and 13 for me because I am really still laying foundation to this intelligence—the intelligence through which the Holy Spirit prays and intercedes for us. What is a problem? What is not a problem? What is human? What is germane to being in this present world?
Do not you understand that the reason you raised the last kid different from the first kid—after a while you figure out oh, they are just being kids. You do not fly off the handle about everything. Oh, they are just being kids. They do not have anything to do with this. Any parents know what I am talking about? Yeah. By the time you get it real good, you do not have no more kids. Then you look at them raising your grandkids. You say do not be bothered that boy by Dexter. Leave the boy alone. Let the boy have another piece of pie. Let him go outside. You keep him in the house too much. Yeah.
The Holy Spirit knows what to worry about and what not to worry about. If He is not saying nothing—keep on driving.
Hebrews 4:12 and 13—let us go with this. For the Word of God is quick—it is alive—and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword. Now remember when we are talking about the Word of God, we are not just talking about the Bible. We fixed that last Wednesday. Everything that God says—whether He has said it through His written Word or through His expressed Word—it is quick. It is powerful. It is sharper than any two-edged sword—piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Good God Almighty. Woo, my God. I cannot hardly take it. What kind of scalpel does God use that goes so deep that it splits between soul and spirit? And then the Bible says bone and marrow—how thin must the scalpel be to get in between bone and marrow? And then it even goes down to the thoughts and the intent—not just what you thought but what you intended.
That is why I do not want nobody to judge me but God—because people look at what you did, but God knows why you did it. Well, I am about to run out this room. I cannot hardly take it. I cannot hardly take it. This is good. It is good. Let us read this again. This is good. This is good.
For the Word of God is quick—it is alive. It is not just written. It is alive. The word quick means alive—and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword—piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Oh my God.
All Things Naked and Open
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight—He sees you. He sees everything around you—every person around you. There is not any creature—which means anything created—there is not anything created that is not manifest in His sight. He is not trying to figure out anybody in the movie. He knows all the characters—even the dog Bobo. Anything He created—He has already known. Any creature—I am still on His intelligence.
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight, but all things are naked—cannot hide nothing. Come out from behind them thick leaves, boy. I saw you. I saw you when you was up under the tree. I saw you. Everything is naked and open before Him with whom we have to do.
I will do you right now. I will do you right now. You pray for me. I am do you right now. Do you right now. You may not ever come back to see them day right now.
I would not want all my thoughts on a loudspeaker at any time—not in church, not serving communion, not while I am preaching. I do not care what the situation here—I would not want all my thoughts to be. And if they ever do get on the speaker, I am leaving immediately—as well as I know you, as good as I like you—there is still some stuff I want to keep to myself.
Now I may be the only nut in the building like this, but I had this feeling that if anybody heard everything I thought—would not nobody love me. I mean, the dog would bite me. The kids would not—I mean, I would be alone in this world because I can think of some stuff, boy. I tell you, you would not believe.
And this is not to be a thing—so you know—when you caught me and said it was like Barnum and Bailey three rings—I would have three rings going on at the same time—to be cracking the whip right in the middle of my mind is a mess. Yeah, the pastor said that—that is right. That is right. The pastor said—I am just keeping it real. I am just keeping it real for you, baby. Keeping it real.
And I do not want you to hear all my thoughts, and I do not think you want me to hear all yours. Imagine what it would be like to be in any kind of relationship with anybody who knew everything. Who y'all see—how those men be looking so funny? The women look funny, but the men look like real funny right. I would have lost my title as a bishop. One brother look at me talking about no, dog—absolutely.
I had to question—man, forget husband and wife. I want the kids to hear not. I did not want mama to hear everything. The Bible says all things are naked and open—naked and open—before Him with whom we have to do.
The Bilingual Believer Demonstration
Now I am going to bring my mic down for a minute, and I am going to say something to you. And in fact, give me—give me a yeah. Give me that. Come here. Yeah, turn his mic on. I am going to say something to you, and you decide which language you will say it here.
Everything is going to be all right. God did not bring you to this part of the kingdom. The blood of Christ always has victory.
Now everything I said to him—I said to him in English. He heard it in English and decided to express it in Spanish because he is bilingual. He can choose which language he is going to express the same thought.
When I talk to you about being a bilingual believer, the Bible is going to say to us that you have an option—you can pray in the Spirit and you can pray with an understanding also. I did not tell him which language to use. That was a matter of his will. His will then decided the option between two languages that were at his disposal because he knew them both.
Okay, just sit right there because I am come back to you in a minute. Now that is my setup for this. Is this good?
Praying in the Spirit vs. Understanding
First Corinthians 14:13—wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth—my spirit prayeth—but my understanding is unfruitful.
My understanding is unfruitful because my understanding is limited to my senses and not my spirit. And my understanding only understands the language I learn. I do not know what you just said, incidentally. I did not understand nothing you said because I have not learned that language. That does not mean that it is not a language.
My understanding is limited to my experiences, but that does not mean that the language is not legitimate because I do not understand it. Somebody in this room understood what you said—who was the brother who hollered back at yeah? That brother right there. He understood it even though I did not understand it.
And the fact that I did not understand it does not mean that communication did not happen across the room. When I pray in the Spirit—though I do not understand what is being said—it is the Spirit of God in me praying to the God of the universe. And just because I do not understand it does not mean it is not a language.
That man just said something, and that brother understood it because he speaks Spanish. I did not understand it, but that does not mean that a message did not reach all the way across the room and touch somebody else without my permission or understanding. When I pray in the Holy Ghost, it is my spirit crying out to God. I do not have to understand it for it to reach heaven. Oh, y'all do not want to bother me.
Okay, let us read this. This is good. Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
Now if you stop there, you would say well do not use it all because you do not understand it. But we just read in Romans that you do not understand nothing anyway. You do not know what to pray for as you ought. How you are going to limit your prayer life to your understanding? You limit your development to your intellectualism. I am going to go a little bit deeper.
Choosing to Pray and Sing in the Spirit
What is it then? Paul says—so since we—I am telling you, if you are praying on your own tongue, your spirit prays, your understanding is unfruitful—pray that you might understand. He says so let us make a decision about this then. He says I will—underline that—I will. This is the bilingual believer.
I will pray with the Spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. Then he takes it a step farther. In fact, he said I am so good at this—I will sing with the Spirit, and I will sing with an understanding also.
Now the toggle switch on which way you go is in the I will. I never told him which language to use. That was an act of his will. So I will pray with the Spirit, and I will pray with an understanding also. I will sing with the Spirit, and I will sing with an understanding also.
Are you using any of this stuff? I do not mean are you getting it. I do not even mean are you enjoying it. Are you using it—or are you holding up the chair by yourself?
Spirit-to-Spirit Communion Produces Fruit
Come here, honey. We are not two people—watch this—we are not two people. We are not a husband and wife. We are two spirits—one spirit reaching out to another spirit. You be the human spirit. I am the Holy Spirit living inside of a believer. And when we connect—there is love, there is healing, there is ministry, there is the sharing of vision.
This is what God has for you. Go after it. This is yours. Take it by force. You shall not die of this disease. You shall live. And every time the Holy Spirit says something down in her spirit, she gets the faith to believe—though her eyes have not seen, ears have not heard—it has been revealed spirit on the spirit—deep on the deep—glory to glory—faith to faith. Do you hear what I am saying to you?
Oh, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Since you still here—our union—our union together—when we got together, we produce children or fruits. When the Bible talks about the fruits of the Spirit—it is when the Holy Spirit attaches itself to my spirit, and all of a sudden meekness and temperance and love and joy begins to come forth out of the Holy Ghost.
This is the fruit. If you would just get locked up with the Holy Ghost, you get some meekness. You get some temperance. You get some love. This is the—oh, y'all do not hear what I am saying. Do you get it?
The fruit of the Spirit is not just the nature of the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit cannot be fruit—because fruit is a child and development to adulthood. This is an offspring born of a union between the Holy Spirit and your spirit—producing the offspring of God's nature in human form. Beloved, now are ye the sons of God.
I am going to stop. I am going to stop. Okay, sit with me. I am going to sit. Look—see that communion between us—that communication—communion—communication—fellowship—produces character, produces destiny, produces purpose.
Faith from Spiritual Revelation
And the reason that she could walk into this present world with a faith for something that her eyes have not seen and her ears have not heard—is because it was revealed unto her on a spiritual level. So on a spiritual level—the land is mine. So I am going to possess the land because God has already given it to me by His Spirit.
I am too old to chase other people's dreams. I do not have time to go after what you think I ought to have. I do not have time to be upset about things that do not matter anyway. At this stage of my life—with the energy I got left—I do not have time to worry about anything that is not mine. I want to focus on the things that have been whispered into my belly that have been communicated into my spirit—deep calling on the deep—cried out down on the inside.
This is what the Bible means when it says we go from faith to faith and from glory to glory. It is not going higher and higher and higher. It is when the glory over here connects with the glory over there—and you spoke it over here, and He answered over there. That is what it is like when your spirit and God's Spirit gets together—what a time, what a time, what a time.
Breaking Free from Limited Understanding
But you still stuck in your understanding—and how you think it ought to be. You got thoughts about what life ought to be, what marriage ought to be, what church ought to be, what kids ought to be. Your manipulation is killing your ministry.
Suppose what you think is important is not important at all. Suppose what you are worried about has nothing to do with purpose and destiny. Suppose you do not understand what really has—suppose you have been taught to think the way you think because you think in the realm of your understanding—and your life has to live under your standing.
Wonder what would happen if you would break through the veil and dare to operate God after you back home.
Give me—I did not know what you said, but I had the faith to believe that what you had communicated was exactly what I said. If you can have faith for what you cannot understand—you can communicate with worlds you would never be able to touch. But if you limit yourself to your own reasoning—you have locked your life in the prison of your limited thinking. Good God, help me here today.
Hearing God's Voice in the Garden
Suppose you were to break out of jail and operate in a dimension where you could see something that you could not see and touch something that you could not touch and hear something that could not be heard. Suppose like Samuel you heard a voice in a room that nobody else heard but you—and you heard it in the spirit and tried to answer it in the natural and had to go back and lay down again. Finally you came back and you recognize what I am hearing cannot be answered in the flesh. It has to be answered by God and God alone.
To the garden alone while the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
It ain't you—it ain't you—it ain't you
The Son of God discloses
And He walks with me and He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None others—none others—none others—none others have ever known
When I come to the garden to meet my love of Jesus—the joy we share as we tarry there—none others—none others have ever known.
The Invitation to Deeper Communion
If you want that joy—if you sense that joy—if you want to go deeper into that joy—if you are tired of living up under the curse of your own limited understanding—find a way for just a moment to slip into the garden—spirit to spirit—deep to deep—faith to faith—glory to glory—and let something deeper than what you think, something more important than what you have been taught—reach out and touch God.
I will pray in the Spirit. I will sing in the Spirit. I will move in the Spirit. I will flow in the Spirit. I will open my heart—all things are open before Him with whom I have to do. I have nothing to hide and nothing to explain.
He even knows the intents and the thoughts of my heart. He is the perfect lover. He is the perfect intercessor. He is the perfect Savior. There is nothing that is classified information.
All things are naked. All things are open. And He has loved me with an everlasting love.
He is waiting for you in the garden. He is waiting for you in the Spirit. Slip into the Spirit with Him for just a moment and bless His name.
Let Him groan for you. Let Him lift stuff up off of you. Your understanding is killing you. Let it go.
If you walk in the flesh, you will of the flesh reap corruption. If you walk in the Spirit, you will reap life and peace.
