Summary:
Pastor Mike delivers a practical training on casting out demons, emphasizing that deliverance flows from surrender to the Holy Spirit rather than formulas or personal skill. Using a live demonstration with Vic, he outlines five key steps: (1) The Deliverer (Holy Spirit) does the work; (2) Start conversations with «How can I pray for you?» and rebut excuses; (3) Use prophetic truth/encouragement to expose demonic lies; (4) Watch for manifestations (tears, convulsions, etc.) while praying with eyes open; (5) «Rip up the lease» by leading the person to repent, renounce legal rights (e.g., occult involvement), accept Jesus fully, and command demons to leave. He stresses desperation, turning over «rocks» through questions, and that true freedom requires full surrender and forgiveness.
Introduction to Deliverance Training
I’m going to actually teach you how to cast out demons. I want to speak to every demonic spirit under the sound of my voice right now, and I want to make a promise that this will be the last night you torment the person you’ve been tormenting. This will be the last night you inflict pain on their body. This will be the last night you’re in their generational line. Because tonight, you are about to be evicted. You’ve been hiding.
You’ve got to get to the place where you’re like, I want to be free more than I want people to think that I’ve got it together. I’m willing to undignify myself. I’m here, God. Set the stage so that I can receive freedom. But deliverance is for the desperate. Are you desperate enough to finally get free from ungodly soul ties? From grief, from rejection, from lust? Whatever that thing is, are you finally ready?
Personal Background and Pandemic Shift
I’m going to teach you how to cast out demons. My biggest concern was that they were going to start manifesting and need deliverance in front of you guys, derailing the teaching. That was my concern.
So I asked Him, I said, Who’s the most delivered person on your team that can actually survive this training? And we’re going to bring them up here in a moment. But let me just say this. My first ministry was intercessory prayer, and that was what I devoted my life to as a teenager. I started casting out demons in 1997. It’s funny because for the last 20 years I’ve been doing the ministry of deliverance, but I never considered myself a deliverance minister. I actually consider myself a gospel teacher. And as you’re proclaiming the gospel and bringing the kingdom, deliverance is a part of that.
It’s funny to me because I’ve been ostracized, ridiculed, gossiped about, and talked about. I’ve been called weird for doing the very thing that Jesus sent people out to do. And I just did it for years and years. I’ve not always been a lead pastor. For years I would travel. It was weird because my ministry was embraced in South America and Eastern Europe, everywhere but America. It was almost as if every other culture accepted the reality of the demonic realm, except in the United States. Then, all of a sudden, the pandemic happened. I was super discouraged and my wife, Julie, who is doing two women’s events and just finished preaching a conference in Grand Rapids this morning, so that’s why she’s not here with me, said, by the way, «It feels like there’s a lot we can’t do, but just go on the internet and do what you’ve been doing for the last 20 years.» I never thought to do that before. I always looked at ministry as an analog world thing.
So, I went live on Facebook and here’s how I have determined how to figure out what your purpose is. Everybody’s written books about how to discover your purpose. Want me to tell you the secret in 10 seconds? Do the things the devil doesn’t think you’ll do. That’s your purpose. I’m serious. Think about it. Do what the devil thinks you’re too afraid to do. There’s your purpose. Because I thought to myself, I’m going to go on Facebook and start casting demons out of people. Here’s the thing, guys. I’m a theologian. I love doctrine; I’ve read all 66 books of the canonized Bible and even the books they haven’t canonized. I consider myself an armchair philosopher. I love Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic. I love discovering the authorial intent of each book of the Bible. But there’s a wild side to me, too.
We are not just floating brains. There’s more to us than that. My intellect was fighting me, saying, they’re going to think you’re crazy. This stuff happens in person, but you’re able to give it context. I felt like the Lord was saying, do the thing the devil doesn’t think you’ll do, because there are millions of people around the world who are locked down, and if you actually do deliverance, they have nowhere else to go. Does that make sense? They’re sitting at home, and they’re not going to churches, ’cause remember the global lockdown? I’ll never forget. I had never had more than 30 people on a live stream. Suddenly, I started doing deliverance, and it immediately went to 600. Then it went to 1,000, then it went to 2,000. I would end my broadcast, and they’d have over 200,000 views within an hour.
So why do I say that? People were hungry for freedom. People were hungry for freedom.
Core Principle: Surrender Over Skill
So here’s the thing I want to tell you about deliverance because we’re going to jump into the training. All you have to do first and foremost is say yes to being a conduit for freedom. You are not the deliverer, but greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Come on, you are not the deliverer, but the deliverer is inside of you, desiring to deliver people. You don’t get better at deliverance; you become more submitted to the deliverer. Come on! Did you just hear me? I’m known as a demon slayer. Somehow, in the last couple of years, I got elevated to this place where I’m considered one of the four most prolific demon slayers in the entire world, which I think is hilarious. It happened by accident.
I’m telling you the secret. I’ve read every book on deliverance. I was personally trained by John Eckhardt, who has pioneered modern 21st-century deliverance movements. I’ll tell you this: before we get into the training, you don’t get better at deliverance; you become more surrendered to the Holy Spirit. If you turn deliverance into a formula, formula turns into ritual, and then ritual turns into religion. The devil will say, gotcha. You’ve done a full circle right back into bondage. You know that Canaan without the presence of God is still Egypt? Let me get, I told you I’m not here to preach.
You know, the promised land, without the one who promised you, is still Egypt. I don’t want just a healing; I want the healer. I don’t want just deliverance; I want the deliverer. Because if you’re seeking healing and deliverance but not seeking the one who does it, heaven is going to be a foreign place to you.
Step 1: The Deliverer Does Deliverance
Can we train now? Okay, let’s welcome the most delivered person in the room. Vic, can you come help us out? Now, I’m going to stand up here so everybody can be in full view, so come on up.
Number one, I’m just going to give you five things, okay? Then we’re going to demonstrate. So, number one is this: The deliverer does deliverance. Let me read to you Matthew 12:22. «Then a demon-oppressed man, ” this is the ESV, „who is blind and mute was brought to him, and he healed him so that the man spoke and saw. And all the people were amazed.“ Somebody say all the people. Come on, people are not necessarily amazed by an eloquent presentation, but through deliverance in the streets of New York City, all the people will be amazed.
They said, „‘Can this be the son of David? ’ But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, ‘Oh, it’s only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man is casting out demons.“ Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, ‘Every kingdom divided against itself is laid to waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? ’» Verse 27 says, «And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.» Don’t you love sassy Jesus? I serve sassy Jesus—or Jesus who knows how to clap back. Verse 28 says, «But if it is by the Spirit of God, ” somebody say by the Spirit of God, „that I cast out demons, the kingdom of God has come upon you.“
I just wanted to say it is by the Spirit of God. That takes all the pressure off of you. Jesus said it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons. So you are going to cast out demons by the Spirit of God.
Step 2: Initiate with Prayer and Rebuttal
Let’s move to number two. This is kind of how you can initiate. I’m going to primarily demonstrate this through evangelism, because I’m assuming that you’re hitting the streets, I’m assuming you’re on the job. One of my favorite questions is, „Hey, how can I pray for you?“
I’ll tell you this: We were in a Starbucks once, my wife and I, and there was a Muslim woman completely covered, and we asked her how we could pray for her. I say that because oftentimes in our minds, we sort people based on who we think will receive Christ and who won’t. So if you’re going to do the work of deliverance, you’ve got to stop sorting people based on your preferences and cultural backgrounds.
So don’t prejudge, because to do the work of deliverance is going to demand that you do not prejudge. Does that make sense? Okay, so how can I pray for you? But now you see, like, it’s awkward to do that. Isn’t it awkward? And sometimes what do people say? — Oh, I’m good. — Yeah. — Thanks, though. — Yeah, I’m good. Thanks, though. And you’re like, uh, but are you really? Sometimes, it’s okay to rebuttal.
Everybody say rebuttal. — Rebuttal. — Okay, rebuttal is the cousin of resist. Resist the devil and he’ll flee from you. How many of you know Satan is stubborn?
While you’re developing discernment, get better at questions. While you’re on the road to developing your discernment, get better at asking questions.
Step 3: Prophetic Truth Exposes Lies
Number three. This is my favorite. Number three, prophetic truth exposes demonic lies. Prophetic truth exposes demonic lies. Okay, I cannot tell you how many times I’ve started to prophesy over people and then demons manifested. When you start prophesying, someone is thinking right now that I can’t prophesy. Can you encourage? Because that’s prophecy with training wheels.
1 Corinthians 14:3: „But on the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for edification.“ So everyone say edification. „To promote their spiritual growth and speaks words of encouragement.“ „To uphold and advise them concerning the matters of God, and speaks words of consolation to compassionately comfort them.“
Prophetic truth exposes demonic lies.
Step 4: Recognizing Manifestations
Now let’s talk about what a manifestation is. Common manifestations: tears (not just emotional), convulsions or minor tics.
Pray with eyes open. Use points of contact (e.g., hand on shoulder/head, fingers in ears for deafness).
If healing prayer doesn’t work, command the spirit directly (e.g., „Spirit of deafness, come out“).
Demons hide under rocks—turn them over by probing deeper.
Step 5: Rip Up the Lease
The grand finale: Rip up the lease.
Demons gain legal rights through open doors (occult, trauma, sin).
Lead person to repent, renounce specific doors, accept Jesus fully, break curses.
Then command demons to leave.
Be stubborn—don’t stop until all are gone (like Mary Magdalene’s seven demons).
Application and Altar Call
Demons reside in unsurrendered areas. True question: Are you 100% submitted?
Forgiveness is key—receive and extend it.
Close eyes, name people to forgive out loud.
Altar call for those desperate for freedom (ungodly soul ties, grief, rejection, lust, etc.).
Deliverance starts with you—be desperate enough to be free first.
