Summary:
In this opening message of the series «Are You Talking to Me?» at LakePointe Church, Pastor Mike introduces the topic of hearing God’s voice and discovering His will. He shares three foundational principles: (1) God’s will is more about who we are (character) than what we do or where we go; (2) God desires us to seek Him more than just His answers; (3) Our role is to follow God’s voice daily rather than frantically search for His hidden plan. Drawing from Jeremiah 29:11, Romans 12, Psalms, and Jesus' call to the disciples, he encourages trusting God’s guidance like sheep following the shepherd’s voice, leading to a life in His will through daily obedience and intimacy with Him.
Welcome and Community Thanks
What’s up, everybody? Thanks for being at Lake Point today; it’s great to see you all! My name is Mike, in case we’ve never met before, and I get to be on the team here. It counts as such an honor and a privilege. I’m really excited to be with you this weekend. I want to welcome all our campuses and those of you who might be joining us online as well. If it’s your first time here, I’m super stoked that you’re with us today—thanks for making that courageous drive into the parking lot and coming here. I hope this feels like home to you.
Hey, this has been a crazy week. I know many of you First Responders have been super busy this week. Thank you for what you’ve done with storm cleanup and all that; I appreciate that. A lot of you have just been good neighbors this week, the way you’ve shared freezers with people and invited people over to your home because you had power and they didn’t. There has been a lot of cleanup going on. We have a remarkable crew here called the Chainsaw Crew, and they’ve been going at it all week long. I’m so grateful for all those people and just for the way you all are trying to be the hands and feet of Jesus. So, thanks for all that!
I haven’t had a chance to say congratulations to all you graduates, so grads, congrats to all of you! I hope you all have a great summer. Who thought that we would start the summer with the Mavs in the NBA Finals? It’s crazy! So that’s going to be a lot of fun. But I’m more excited to hang with you for the next four weeks in a series where we’re asking God, «Are you talking to me?» We’re going to try to learn some things together about hearing from God, knowing God’s plan, discovering God’s will for our lives, and getting some direction from Him.
The Need for God’s Direction
Now, I know that when I say that, some of you kind of yawn and say, «I’m not sure I need this. I’ve got all the loose ends of my life pretty much tied up. I’ve done the analytics; I’ve got all my ideas, all my goals, and my 10-year plan pretty much mapped out. I really don’t have any major decisions to make; man, I’m set! I don’t have a huge need to hear from God.» Okay, planning is great, but did you know the Scripture tells us we can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps? I’m just guessing that some of you are thinking, «Oh man, this is going to be awesome! I’ve got some big-time decisions to make. I could really use some help. I would love to hear from God about a bunch of stuff! I would love to know what God’s will for my life is and what His plan is for my life. I would really love to know that God is leading me. I would give anything to know that I’m exactly where I ought to be, doing what I need to be doing.»
Perhaps these days you’re asking questions like, «Am I at the right school? Did I choose the right career track? Did I choose the right major? Should I change jobs? They offered me another position; is that the right position? Because that position requires that I move to another town. Should I move to another town? If I move to another town, I’ve got to find a new house, and how in the world would I know which house I’m supposed to get? And if I move, I’ve got to find a new church, and how would I know which church is the right church? Plus, I’m not even sure I want to move right now because this relationship I’m finally getting into is with someone I really like; in fact, I even think I might love them. But then again, I’m not really sure if they’re the right one or the wrong one, or maybe the one I thought was the wrong one was actually the right one. Now, I don’t know what to do; I’m so confused.»
Now, granted, there are decisions we have to make every single day, right? I mean, you got up today and chose between a donut or oatmeal; you had to make that call. Later on, it will be Whataburger or salad; you’re going to have to make that call. Some of you stood at the closet today and went, «Blue shirt or gray hoodie? Shorts or jeans?» It wasn’t really a big deal. It didn’t require like prayer and fasting; you just made a decision and showed up at church. But there are other decisions in life that loom a little larger, right? Some of them can even intimidate us, and we wonder if we can really know that it’s God’s will for our lives.
So I’m just praying that the next few weeks together will be super helpful for every single one of us, and before we jump into all this, maybe the first thing we ought to do is just back up and ask another question: Does God even care? Does God even have plans for people like us? Does God really guide people? Does God still really speak to people? And if He does, is there any way that I’m ever going to hear from Him?
I’m sure a lot of other people, like Abraham, Moses, Elijah, Daniel, Mary, John the Baptist, and Pastor Josh—all these spiritually elite people at Lake Point—probably hear from God. But I’m just an ordinary dude; I’m just an ordinary girl. I’m kind of wondering if I’ll ever be able to put my head on the pillow at night and know that I’m hearing from God and doing what He wants me to do with my life. I think a lot of us are afraid we’ll never really know that.
Well, if that is you, I hope that the next few weeks will be a great encouragement to you as God unfolds for us what I think are some very simple, life-changing principles. Now, I dare say simple, because maybe this thing about knowing God’s will isn’t as complicated as we want to make it. Maybe it’s not like playing a video game, sudoku, or Fortnite; maybe it’s not as complicated as working a Rubik’s Cube or getting out of an escape room. Maybe it’s far simpler than that.
Jeremiah 29:11 — God Has Good Plans
So I want to begin with a passage that many of you have heard before, but maybe you’ve never heard God speaking it directly to you as He is right now: Jeremiah 29:11. «For I know the plans I have for you, » declares the Lord, «plans to prosper you, not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.» Now we’ve got to be careful when we look at that word «prosper» and the context it comes out of. That verse was spoken to a specific group of people at a specific time, and it doesn’t say here that God’s plan for all of us is that we become really, really wealthy; that’s not necessarily God’s plan. But like we just sang together, He has good plans. Our Father’s desire has always been to lead us into places of deep satisfaction and to lead us to a hope and a future. I mean, He has proven that through Jesus Christ. He has good plans for us; He does care, and He does speak.
Principle 1: God’s Will Is More About Who We Are
Now let me say this up front because some of you are thinking, «Oh great, man, he’s going to speak on finding God’s will for the next four weeks; thank you!» I know somewhere in the course of what we’re going to talk about, there’s going to be a little something that he’s going to say, and it’s probably going to unlock this door that I’ve been banging on for a long time. It’s going to clarify some of these decisions I’ve been mulling over; I bet he’s going to be able to give me that sign—the sign I’ve been waiting for.
I want to guarantee you that nowhere in the course of our time together will I be able to tell you whether you should date him or break up with him; I’m not going to be able to tell you whether you should change schools or change majors, whether you should get out of that line of work and into this line of work, or if you need to stay in this city or move to Nashville. And somebody just said, «He just said Nashville, didn’t he? He said Nashville. Why would you just blurt out Nashville in the middle of a talk like that?» That’s it—that’s the sign! That’s the sign we’ve been looking for, right?
I’m guessing that some of you are going to get really frustrated because we’re going to get to the end of all this, and you’re going to say, «Dang it! I didn’t get an answer!» I’m sorry about that; I don’t have a specific answer for you. But I do think that God’s Word will unfold for us some ways that we can begin to become the kind of people who are genuinely listening to God every day and just humbly living in His will every single day.
Today, I want to give you just three foundational principles that have really helped me with this whole discovering God’s will for my life kind of thing, and we’re going to build on these in the coming weeks. Principle number one is this: God’s will is much more about who we are than what we do or where we go. Why don’t you read that with me? God’s will is much more about who we are than what we do or where we go.
God’s will as it relates to your life in this very moment is far more about who you are as a person than it is about what you do or, for that matter, where you go. Because let’s be honest—when we start talking about God’s will for our life, immediately our minds start thinking about decisions, right? Choices, options—here, there. These people, those people, this thing, that thing, this situation, that situation. Because when we think about God’s will for our life, we think about the plan; we think about the blueprint for our lives.
And I think God is just trying to speak to every one of us, saying, «My will begins with you. My primary will, my major agenda, my really big focus right now, is not so much where you work, or what college you attend, or who you marry, or where you live. It’s who you are!» I mean, what if God would miraculously intervene right now with all the questions you have about your future, and somehow supernaturally, your answer appeared on the screen behind me? Nobody in the room would know it except for you, and you would recognize it and go, «Oh man, that’s it! That’s the right direction! That’s the direction I’ve been waiting for! That is the right place I’m supposed to go!»
And what if you went to that so-called «right place, “ but all the while you had never allowed God to transform you into the right person that He wants you to be? You could be in that right place and the whole time you’re there be the wrong person in that place and be completely out of the will of God—not because you were necessarily in the wrong place, but because you were not the right person that God intended for you to be.
Now, you can go home and take out your Bible, and I hope you’ll do this, and look through all the passages of Scripture that have the words connected: God’s will, or God’s desire, or the Lord wants. In most of the passages you’ll find, they are not related to what choice you make or where you go in life; they’re related to who you are. For instance, you may say, „I need some direction. I really want to hear from God.“ Well, here are some things that God has already spoken. For example, Romans chapter 12, verses 1 and 2 say, „Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is your true and proper worship.“
So the writer here is saying, „Give your whole lives to God; present all of who you are as a human being to God.“ That’s what really worship is all about. Coming together and singing these songs can be worship, but the heart and soul of worship is giving your life completely over to God every single day, embracing what God has done for you—that’s the best thing you can do for Him. That’s your spiritual act of worship; that’s God’s will for your life.
He goes on: „Do not conform to the pattern of this world. Don’t act like, think like, talk like everybody else on the planet. But be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, perfect will.“ So God is saying, „Would you like to know my will for your life?“ You say, „Absolutely, God! I am all ears! I’ve been wondering for a long time; I’ve been praying about it, waiting, waiting, waiting. Come on, come on, God; hit me with it!“
God says, „Okay, here you go: My will for your life is that you would give yourself daily and completely as a living holy sacrifice—that you would no longer be conformed to the cookie-cutter mold of everybody else around you, but that you would renew your mind, transform your way of thinking to my Word so you can realize your full potential as the person I created you to be. That’s my will for your life. And if you do that, if you do that, you can lay down at night knowing, ‘Man, I’m in the center of God’s will! ’“
Now I know right now somebody’s already stopped taking notes and they went, „Dude, I already know all this stuff! What I need to know is whether I should quit my job or not! That’s what I need to know! I’m trying to figure out whether I should sell my house; I’m trying to figure out which bachelorette’s going to get the rose! That’s what I want to know!“ And that’s what we want to know, because that’s a whole lot easier than just saying to God, „I just want to be in Your will every day.“
But discovering God’s will for your life begins by saying to God, „Lord, I want You to make me into the person You want me to be so that whether I work here or work there, go to this school or that school, play on this team or that team, the man or the woman who shows up every day is the right kind of person.“
I love this scripture; it’s found over in 1 Thessalonians 5:16. Somebody says, „I really, really want to know, I want to know God’s will for my life. I’ve been searching; I’ve been seeking. What is God’s will for my life?“ I’ve got a great word for you; here it is: „Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.“
I’ve got a buddy who said somebody asked him the other day what he was going to do when he retired, and my friend said, „Well, I hope to become a grateful, joyful old man.“ That’s God’s will for our life. His will for our life is that you choose joy every day! That you become a man or a woman who lives a lifestyle of prayer and dependence upon God. That in every situation you get into, you give thanks just the way Jesus did, because you know that God is working a bigger plan for your life. That’s God’s will for your life.
Some might say, „Well, I’m really confused right now about this relationship I’m in; I’m kind of seeking after God’s will. I mean, we’ve got some sexual chemistry—I’m just being honest; we’ve got some big-time sparks going on—we’re thinking about moving in together, man, I sure would like to hear from God on this! I’d like to know God’s will for this relationship.“ Well, God’s already talked about this. 1 Thessalonians 4 says, „It is God’s will that you should be sanctified, that you should avoid sexual immorality, that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable.“
Or maybe you’ve been thinking, „Man, you know, this whole weekend party thing is just leaving me empty. In fact, I don’t even like getting wasted anymore, and in fact, I think this might be taking control of me. I wish I could hear from God on this.“ Well, good news! God lovingly speaks; He says, „Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because it’ll ruin your life. Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you.“
So you can look through all these scriptures and find these passages where God’s will is connected in the same sentence, and you will see that the focus, most of the time, is about the kind of person He’s making us to be— not so much the places He’s leading us to. You see, I think that God would much rather be a sculptor in our lives than our Heavenly Alexa, just spitting out answers for us. I think He would much rather put us on the potter’s wheel and mold us, and shape us, and chisel us into something incredible than He would to stand out on the tarmac with orange flashlights, pointing and directing us to the right gate.
He would much rather be a creative watercolor artist than the answer guy who works at the info booth at the mall. God doesn’t just want to be our personal ways app helping us get to the places we want to go; He wants to put His hands on us and mold our character into who He wants us to be. And gang, you can ask any artist, any sculptor, anyone who’s working on a beautiful, precious masterpiece—they’re not as concerned as if it ends up in the Louvre in Paris or a museum in Dallas or in Hobby Lobby or on some random wall in somebody’s dorm room. The great feeling of satisfaction comes when they take their hands off of it and that piece of art looks exactly the way they wanted it to look all along.
And God says to you and me, „My will for you is much more about who you are than it is about what you do or where you go.“
Principle 2: Desire God More Than His Answers
Principle number two: God longs for us to desire Him more than His answers for our life. Read that with me: God longs for us to desire Him more than His answers for our life. My experience is that often when I’m looking for direction, my life can become kind of consumed with the answer so much that I’m seeking that my conversation with God is pretty much, „Lord, I’ve got to know! You’ve got to tell me! I mean, time is running out; I’ve got a deadline! Are you aware of that? I could really use some clarity right now.“ And so all my devotional time is just „I want to know! I need to know! I’ve got to know! And I’ve got to know right now!“
And just being honest, there are times I have sensed God gently asking me, „Bro, do you really love me, or do you just want my answers for your life? Is your passion for my person, or is your passion more for my plan? And if I told you the answer to your question, would you just take off and run with it, and I wouldn’t see you again for, like, another three months until you had another question you needed an answer to?“ Because in reality, sometimes it seems like all I am to you is like a Google search, and once you get the answer, I don’t really see you much anymore.
Brother Lawrence, in his classic little book about the presence of God, said, „The most holy and necessary practice in our spiritual life is the presence of God.“ That means finding constant pleasure in His divine company, speaking humbly and lovingly with Him in all seasons, at every moment, without limiting the conversation in any way. God longs for you and me to desire Him—to want to be with Him—more than just to get His answers. And the truth is, when we expand our capacity to experience the person, the presence of God like He was talking about, that’s when we really start to grow, and that’s when we even find some direction for our life.
I love what David wrote in Psalm 27: „One thing I ask of the Lord, one thing I ask of the Lord, and this is what I seek.“ I wonder if we had the chance to ask God just one thing; I wonder how many of our requests would be, „Hey God, here’s the one thing I’d like: I want you to do this, I want you to tell me this, I want you to fix this, change this, work this out, give me this; God, would you just let me know this?“ David says this: „I’ve asked from the Lord one thing, and that’s what I will seek, ” and here’s what he asked for: „That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.“
He just wants to know Him. He writes, „God, if I just get one request, it isn’t him or her; it isn’t here or there; it isn’t job option A or job option B. My one request? I just want you! That’s it! That’s my one thing! I just want to be close to you!“
I’m personally discovering that it’s out of that kind of relationship—the desire to know Him, the desire to pull close, that intimate relationship—His answers for our life start to flow. It’s out of walking with Him every day in intimate friendship that God starts to lead us into some pretty cool places. Look what David writes again in Psalm 32; I think it’s a really cool concept here. This is God speaking: „I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.“
God says, „I will guide you! I want to! I’m not uninterested in your choices. I’m not indifferent about the decisions you need to make. I’m not standing back saying, ‘I don’t care where you go; go wherever you want.’ I really do want to lead you to the best pathways, but I will guide you with my eye upon you.“
Now, you all know how this works. You’ve been to a party in a crowded room, and the person you came with is still enjoying the party, but you’re ready to go, right? What do you do? It’s really rude to go, „Hey! Let’s go!“ What do you do? You suddenly look across the room and go, „Shh!“ And you guide them all the way to the door with your eye upon them.
And if God is going to guide you and me and instruct us in the way that we should go with His eye upon us, we’ve got to be seeking His face. It seems like I’m after His hand a lot more than I am His face. It seems like we always want what He’s got—what He can give us, what He can do for us—and rarely do we come to Him and say, „God, I don’t want anything from You; I just want to get to know You. I want to seek Your face! I’ve got some questions in my life, but let’s just set them aside for a while. God, I want to know more of You. I’m not here to get anything from You; I’m not here to ask anything of You; I’m just here to be with You. And if I could just be with You right now, that would just be enough for me.“
Gang, God longs to find men and women who will seek Him more than just His answers for their lives.
Principle 3: Follow God’s Voice, Not Search for His Will
One more principle: principle number three is this: Our role is not to find God’s will, but to follow God’s voice. Read that with me: Our role is not to find God’s will, but to follow God’s voice.
I really have encountered lots of people over the years who say things like, „I’m really looking for a sign. Man, I’m looking for a sign!“ And they go around unscrambling political headlines, license plate numbers, cloud formations, fortune cookies, and horoscopes—you name it—trying to find the will of God. Our role is not to find God’s will; it’s to follow God’s voice.
I love the simplicity of this encounter in Matthew chapter 4. It says this: „As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew; they were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ‘Come, follow me, ’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.’“ And at once, they left their nets and followed Him.
These guys didn’t know where they were going; they had no clue of the 10-year plan, but they knew Jesus did, and they heard His voice. They trusted His heart and they followed Him. I’m telling you, a whole lot of stress left my life when it became enough for me to know that there is a master plan for my life, and I know where it is.
I don’t have it. It’s not in my house; it’s not in my office; it’s not under the bed of my truck; it’s not in my mind; it’s not in my weak and clumsy hands. There is a master plan for my life, and I know exactly where it is! It is in the strong, capable, loving hands of my Father who has plans for me, and I totally trust Him with it.
I was in Dollar Tree a while back trying on some of those, you know, a pair of readers—anybody else need readers these days? And I lose them all the time, so I’ve been stocking up at the Dollar Tree—now it should be called the Do25 Tree! But there’s a sign on that rack of glasses saying, „Stand back 14 inches and pick up here and see if you can read the different type.“ So I’m standing back going, „That’s better! That’s really good right there!“
You’ve seen those commercials for that allergy medication called Claritin, where the TV screen is foggy and dull, and then all of a sudden it is clear? I can see clearly now! Right? I think we have a tendency to tell God, „I’ll trust You, but honestly, things are a little foggy right now. I sort of kind of want to walk by faith, but I could use a little HD; I could use a little clarity here.“
So, a while back, I stopped praying for clarity and started praying for deeper trust. Not that praying for clarity is wrong, but just for me personally, I knew that by craving clarity, all I was doing was trying to eliminate some of the risk involved in trusting God. You see, my job in this world is not to go out with a magnifying glass and sift through the haystack of this world, trying to see if I could find the needle of God’s will for my life. My job and responsibility in this deal is to surrender to His higher ways every day, to surrender to His better wisdom, His deeper love, and just follow the leadership of God as He gives it to me all day long— to obey Him and walk in step with His Word, with His guiding eye, with His voice as it gives leadership to my life in the big things and in the little things every single day. That’s my role; that’s your role.
Some of us get so stressed out trying to sift through life to see if we can finally discover God’s will for our life, when all along, He has never asked us to do that! He just asked us to follow Him throughout the day as He leads and prompts us. And gang, His Holy Spirit prompts us, speaks to us all day long. I know you’ve heard Him; I know you’ve heard that voice speak to you saying, „You want to know my will for your life? Go back in and clean out the stubble out of the sink!“ You’ve heard Him say that! You’ve heard Him say, „Put that toilet lid back down!“ You’ve heard Him say, „Don’t wait for somebody else to fold the laundry!“ You’ve heard Him say, „You do the dishes!“ You’ve heard Him say, „Let that guy go in front of you!“ You’ve heard Him say, „Change the channel!“ You’ve heard Him say, „Don’t post that!“ You’ve heard Him say, „Give that person 20 bucks; looks like they need it!“ You’ve heard Him say, „Pick up the phone and apologize right now!“ You’ve heard Him say, „They could use an encouraging text; why don’t you shoot them one?“
All day long, He speaks! All day long, He leads! That’s how He leads us! In the Gospel of John, Jesus is talking about people who follow Him and how He gives them leadership. This is what He says in John 10:27: „My sheep, they listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.“ He said, „My sheep don’t go out and search for my will; my sheep are just really good listeners and they know when I’m speaking, and they hear the things I’m saying, and they follow what I ask them to do.“
You know, sheep have some good things going for them and they’ve got some bad things. I couldn’t resist doing that—sorry! But one of the bad things they’ve got going for them is sheep don’t see real well; they could use some readers from Dollar Tree, like me. But sheep hear extraordinarily well! So shepherds would begin to sing or speak as they would walk along, and while they walked and sang and spoke, all the little, I-don’t-see-very-well sheep would hear His voice and they would start trickling along behind Him as He would lead them. As a result, they would show up in the places that they always intended for them to be.
That’s the way God leads us! Like a shepherd, we hear Him and we follow! Denny Crum—some of you may know who Denny Crum is—he was a Hall of Fame basketball coach for the University of Louisville Cardinals. He was a longtime assistant with John Wooden at UCLA and learned the very calm demeanor—the way John Wooden would coach. My friend Bob Russell told me he was invited one time to sit on the bench next to all the coaching staff during a University of Louisville basketball game. He said it was amazing how Denny Crum would just walk up and down the sidelines, with a program rolled up in his hand, just talking in a very calm, conversational tone to all of his players.
He never raised his voice! He said it was astounding how every player on that floor could hear the coach’s voice in the middle of 18,000 screaming fans. Why was that? Because they heard that voice every day in practice.
The key is to be so dialed into a relationship with God, to His Word, that we can hear His voice above all the noise as He talks to us. Jesus says, „I’m the Good Shepherd; my sheep, they hear my voice above the noise! My sheep know my heart, my sheep trust my wisdom, and my sheep, they just follow, and I will lead you down the right path.“
I really want to, but I want you to trust my heart, to acknowledge that my ways are better, and to lean into my better wisdom. I think I’ve shown you this prayer before, but Debbie has prayed this with our kids all the way growing up and continues to pray it with our grandkids. It comes from Psalm 25: „Show me your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.“
That’s a pretty good prayer, isn’t it? „Show me your ways, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth.“ Lord, just show me your ways; teach me your paths; guide me in your truth! You just say, „God, today I’m committing my path to You! All day long, I will listen well! Show me your ways; teach me your paths; guide me in your truth! In every encounter today, Lord, in every moment today, in every challenge, every temptation, every big adventure I’ve got on my schedule today, I just want to walk with You today, and I will listen well! I will follow what You ask me to do! I’ll trust Your leadership; I will surrender to Your transforming power! I will cooperate with You as You try to mold me into the right kind of person. Lord, just show me your ways; teach me your paths; guide me in your truth! So that wherever You might lead me today, I know I’ll be in the center of Your will.“
Closing Prayer
Let’s bow our heads for just a few moments. You know, we’re going to learn a lot, I think, in the coming weeks, but maybe in the quiet right now, you could just whisper that prayer. You can just take a deep breath about all the anxious stuff you’ve got going on, the decisions you’ve got to make, things that are looming, and just say, „Show me Your ways; teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth“ to the Father who has plans for you. Say, „Show me Your ways; teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth.“
I know God speaks; He speaks all the time! I think even right now, He’s speaking to you. I think He’s trying to say to every one of us today, „I love you more than you could ever imagine, and I long to do life with you—that’s why I created you. I know the plans I have for you, plans to give you a hope and a future, and my Son died so that sin would no longer separate us. Today is the day to come to Jesus and let Him be your Good Shepherd and start following Him.“
Father, thank You for the way You do guide us and lead us like a good shepherd. Thank You for the way Your eye is constantly upon us, for the way You love us deeply, for the way You want to put us on the wheel and mold us into the type of people You want us to be. God, I thank You so much that You’re a God that does have good, good plans for us. Even in deserts or gardens, it doesn’t matter-we know that You’re our Shepherd, and we walk with You. Lord, I pray that You would just settle us down a little bit during this series, that we would just lean into a daily relationship with You and let You lead us that way in the little things and the big things. God, I pray that there would be a sense of calm and a sense of just joy of walking with You every day that we would all start to experience. So, God, we give You permission to teach us over the next few weeks. Thank You for what You taught us today, and I pray all this in Jesus' name. Amen.
