Mensa Otabil - Our Eternal King
TOPICS: Word to Go

The Doxology: A Hymn of Praise

«Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God, who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.» (1 Timothy 1:17)
This verse is a doxology — a hymn of praise used by the early church. It reveals five specific aspects of God’s nature and two responses required from us.

Five Attributes of God’s Nature
1. God is King. He is the majestic ruler of the universe, the heavens, and the earth. His word is final, and His power is absolute. In our faith, we stand on the fact that God is in control.

2. God is Eternal. He has no beginning and no end. While we struggle to conceptualize this because everything in our world ends, God exists outside of time. This is why His timing often differs from ours.

3. God is Immortal. God never dies. Even when people leave us or pass away, God remains. He is the constant presence that will always be with you because He lives forever.

4. God is Invisible. We cannot see Him, but He is real. Physical signs alone don’t build lasting faith — even the Israelites doubted after seeing the Red Sea part. True faith is trusting in the unseen God.

5. God is the Only Wise God. God’s wisdom is superior to all earthly knowledge. No computer or human mind will ever be smarter than Him. He is the ultimate source of all truth.

Our Response: Honor and Glory
Because of who God is, we owe Him two things:
— Honor: We must value Him above everything else.
— Glory: We give Him the highest acclaim, recognizing His goodness and awesomeness.

When we worship, we aren’t just saying words; we are giving Him the credit due to the King eternal and immortal.

A Closing Prayer
«Heavenly Father, You are the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God. I give You honor and glory forever and ever. In Jesus' name, Amen.»
