Mensa Otabil - The Power of Praise
TOPICS: Word to Go, Praise

From 2 Chronicles 20:21–22, this message reveals praise as a powerful spiritual weapon, showing that when Judah put worship before warfare, God Himself fought the battle and brought victory.

Day 16: When Praise Becomes Your Battle Strategy

Welcome to day number 16 of our 40 Days of Power. We turn to 2 Chronicles 20:21–22, where King Jehoshaphat appoints singers to praise the Lord and proclaim His mercy as they go before the army, and God responds by defeating their enemies.

As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir. This passage reveals a remarkable and counterintuitive strategy: praise was placed ahead of power, and worship led the way to victory.

Praise as a Spiritual Weapon

One of the ways Christians take authority is through praise. Praise and worship are spiritual weapons, often underestimated because they are not always visible or dramatic. Yet they are powerful and effective when exercised in faith.

King Jehoshaphat understood this truth. Three nations united their forces against Judah, creating an overwhelming threat. Militarily speaking, the situation was hopeless, and the king had no clear strategy for victory.

When God Fights for You

Jehoshaphat received a word from the Lord that God Himself would fight the battle. With that assurance, he consulted with his leaders and asked a crucial question: if God is fighting for us, how should we approach this battle?

The enemy was formidable, but God is almighty. Knowing that God had gone ahead of them, they decided the logical response was to place praise and worship at the front of the battle.

Worship Leading the Army

The worshippers and priests were placed in front, singing and praising the beauty of holiness, declaring that the Lord is good and His mercy endures forever. Behind them stood the army, ready for battle.

It must have been an astonishing sight, worshippers leading an army into battle. To a natural mind, this would seem like a flawed strategy, even reckless, given the danger they faced.

Superior Weapons Bring Victory

If Jehoshaphat had matched the enemy weapon for weapon, the result would have been disastrous. Instead, he chose superior weapons. The army was present, but praise led the way, and God responded with divine intervention.

This teaches us a vital principle: prepare, plan, and do what is necessary, but always put God first. Lead with His name, His worship, and His praise, and let everything else follow.

Let Praise Lead in Every Battle

Whenever we face battles in life, we should ensure that praise goes before us. We may have plans and resources, but our confidence must be in the Lord. Praise positions us to see God move on our behalf.

Many people attend church yet remain passive during praise and worship. They do not sing, engage, or lift their hearts to God. Yet praise is not optional; it is a vital part of spiritual warfare.

Worship Like Your Life Depends on It

As you go to church, worship God as if your life depends on it, because in many ways, it does. The battles of the coming days are often won in advance through sincere praise and worship.

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. Honor His name with your whole heart. Let praise lead, let faith rise, and watch what God will do for you in the days ahead.

Prayer

Let us pray together. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, I praise You because You are good and Your mercies endure forever, in Jesus’ name.» Amen.
