Mensa Otabil - The Most High Rules

Mensa Otabil - The Most High Rules
TOPICS: Word to Go

Welcome to day number 33 of our 40 days of power. Just one week to go. Next week at this time will be the last day of 40 days of power. Daniel 4, verse 17: «This decision is by the decree of the watchers and the sentence by the word of the holy ones, in order that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, gives it to whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men.» The old King James says, «The Most High rules in the affairs of men. In the situations of life, God rules.»

Sometimes it looks as if human beings rule and people throw themselves about, throwing their weight around as if they call all the shots and determine how everything turns out. But this day we proclaim that the Lord rules in the affairs of men. It is especially so when we see evil and impunity go unrestrained and unlimited, but the Lord rules in the affairs of men. This revelation came to King Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar heard this verdict from God when he thought he was almighty. His armies had conquered the nations around him. His kingdom, Babylon, was a supreme kingdom. At the height of his governance, he felt there was nothing like him. He resisted every other god, including Jehovah God. But God visited him, gave him a decree from His heavenly council, and said, «Know this: the Lord rules in the affairs of men.» After this, Nebuchadnezzar lost his sanity and fell into depravity.

So what do we learn from this? First, that God sees what goes on in our lives. He watches over us. God keeps a keen eye on everything that is happening on the earth. Life on earth doesn’t just spin by itself. People don’t just determine how things are going to go. There are people with so much money, power, and influence who think they can determine the destiny of others. But today we proclaim that God rules in the affairs of men. The second thing we learn is that God guides the histories of this world for His purposes. Sometimes, things happen that we can’t figure out. He does not always guide every event, but God uses all events for His glory. Even what was meant for evil, God uses for good.

Someone may be planning evil and think his evil plan will succeed, but God will overturn the evil plan and use it for the good of His purpose and for the good of His children. God guides human history. We are in the midst of God’s grip, and He is guiding human history toward His purposeful end. The third thing I want you to note is that God’s rule overrules all human rule. Yes, there are powerful people in the world, but God overrules them. There are people who make decrees, but God overrules them. There are people who conspire, but God overrules them. There are people who plan, but God overrules them. God’s rule overrules every human rule.

That is something Nebuchadnezzar sadly learned at the end, but he learned it. He had to learn it. There is a ruler of the universe, and He is bigger than King Nebuchadnezzar. The fourth point is that God will bring evil down. Evil may be exalted and may sit on a throne, but God will bring it down. Why? Because God rules in the affairs of men. Listen, your life is not in your hands, and the destiny of your life is not in someone else’s hands. God rules in the affairs of man, and He will rule over your life. So today, we join all the forces of God, the angels of God, and declare that God rules in the affairs of man.

Let us pray. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, You rule in the affairs of men. Overrule the decrees of the wicked and favor Your children in Jesus' name. Amen and amen.»
