Mensa Otabil - The Lord of Breakthrough

Mensa Otabil - The Lord of Breakthrough
TOPICS: Word to Go, Breakthrough

From 2 Samuel 5:20, this message reveals God as Baal-perazim—the Lord of the breakthrough—showing that when the anointing attracts opposition, God Himself goes before His servant to shatter enemy resistance and give decisive victory.

Day 17: The Lord of the Breakthrough

This is day number 17 of our 40 Days of Power. Our scripture is from 2 Samuel 5:20:
«So David went to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, ‘The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breaking through of water.’»

Because of this victory, David named the place Baal-perazim, which means *Lord of the breakthrough*. This is how David came to know God after this encounter with the Philistines.

[h2]Anointing Attracts Opposition
This battle was the very first one David fought after being anointed king over Israel. The moment the Philistines heard that David had been anointed, they attacked him. Interestingly, during the years David lived in Philistine territory while Saul pursued him, the Philistines rarely attacked him. But once the anointing was revealed, the attack came.

The lesson is clear: the anointing of God upon your life attracts attacks. When people recognize that God has favored you and set you apart for something greater, resistance will come. So do not be surprised if, during this season of prayer and consecration, challenges arise. The attack is often confirmation that God is at work.

[h2]From Defense to Breakthrough
When the Philistines gathered in the Valley of Rephaim, David did not rush into battle. He withdrew to a stronghold and inquired of the Lord. He asked, «Should I go up against them?» And the Lord answered, «Go, for I will surely deliver them into your hand.»

That promise—*I will be with you*—made all the difference. God never sends His people into battle to suffer defeat. If He sends you, He also guarantees victory.

David went down into the valley, and God gave him a breakthrough so powerful that David described it as water bursting through a barrier. The enemy defenses collapsed suddenly and completely.

[h2]What It Means That God Is the Lord of the Breakthrough
First, it means that God controls every aspect of the breakthrough process. Nothing needed for your victory is outside His authority.

Second, it means that God has a plan for your breakthrough. You may not know the timing or the method, but God already has a strategy in place.

Third, it means that God not only plans the breakthrough—He executes it. He brings it to pass by His own power.

Because He controls the process, designs the plan, and performs the victory, He is rightly called the Lord of the breakthrough.

[h2]A Word for This Season
No matter how strong the enemy looks or how defensive your position feels right now, there is a breakthrough coming. God will move you from defense into victory. The same God who broke through for David will break through for you.

Prayer

Let us pray together. Say with me:
«Heavenly Father, You are the Lord of the breakthrough. Let Your power shatter every evil force around me in Jesus’ name. Amen.»
