Deuteronomy chapter 28, verse 7: The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
What a promise from God! What a promise! This is what God said to Israel: if they would walk in obedience to His word and do His will, He says this is what’s going to happen. The good news is this promise is not only for Israel as a nation; it’s also for the believer who is in Christ Jesus. The same God who said their enemies will be scattered in front of them is saying the same thing to us if we walk in obedience with Him. This means that we think about the right things, allow His word to be settled in our minds, walk strong, and cast down every wrong imagination. When we walk in God’s word and walk in obedience, then He says those who rise up against you will be defeated before your face.
God does not promise that there will be no attacks or no difficulties or challenges for the believer. Sometimes there are conspiracies; sometimes there are people, unfortunately, who decide to be adversaries to the children of God — people who decide to do you evil, and it’s real in life. But God says don’t be too bothered about them because this is what I’m saying: this is what is settled about your enemies; they will come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. God knows there are people who are seeking to annoy you, but He says they will be taken care of. God will take good care of every enemy.
Ultimately, the enemy of the believer is Satan; he is the big enemy. He also works with other entities-some of the entities are spiritual, and we call them demons, and some of the entities are natural; they are people. Sometimes he even works with forces of nature. So whatever it is that he uses, God says they will come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. Whether it’s a demonic attack, a natural disaster, or people who have been deployed to come against you as a child of God, your job is to live for God, do His will, keep your minds on the Lord, cast out every doubt about who God is in your life, and just watch what He does to your enemies.
Many times in the Bible, God will tell His children that you don’t even need to fight in this battle because God takes our enemies personally. If you live for God and do His will, He takes your enemies personally and says that the enemy will do something to His people. He says they will come against you. An enemy can either rise against you or come against you. When they rise against you, it means they make themselves bigger than you and seek to attack you or come against you directly. Whether it’s coming against you or rising against you, it’s a posture of attack, and God says, «I will take care of that.»
He says if we walk in obedience with Him, they will be defeated before your face. Defeated before your face-what does that mean? It means you’re going to see the defeat; it’s not going to be a secret. God says they’ll be defeated before your face, which means you’ll see the attack, see who is bringing the attack, and you will also see how God solves this problem. So get ready to see God defeat the enemy before your face, and then it says they will flee before you seven ways. That simply means that they will scatter in all directions; their plans will be scattered, conspiracies will be scattered, and agreements that have been made against you will all be dissolved.
God says don’t be overwhelmed by the attack. They are rising against you; they are coming against you, but God will scatter them before you. They’ll be defeated before your face, so whether your enemy is Satan, demons, or people, it doesn’t matter; the end result is the same. God says they’ll be defeated before you, and they will scatter before you. May that be your testimony forever! Oh Lord, Your word is settled in heaven, and may this word be settled in your life in Jesus' name.
Let’s pray: Say with me, Heavenly Father, cause that which rises against Your purposes for my life to be defeated and scattered before me in Jesus' name. Amen and amen.
