We are looking at the final installment of what we have examined this week about Moses and his response to the call of God. So now we are in Exodus 4:29 — 30: Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel, and Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had spoken to Moses. Then he did the signs in the sight of the people. Though the Lord may call us alone and even link us to somebody, we still need a larger group to believe in the mission that God has given to us. We have to work to include many more people to get the work done. God called Moses, linked him to Aaron, and between the two of them, they went to the elders of Israel. Now Aaron was the one who knew the elders; he went to gather them, and they came to meet Moses. So they met with the elders to tell them what the Lord had charged them to do.
There’s something I want you to note from this passage: When they gathered the elders of Israel, Moses-who had the word, who had the encounter, who had the experience at the burning bush, who had the signs, whose rod turned into a snake, and whose hand was made leprous and then restored-did not speak. Aaron was the one who said the words that God had given to Moses and performed the signs that God had given to Moses. That is a very important observation. It means that Moses was able to explain the mandate to Aaron so clearly that Aaron could interpret that mandate to other people. When Aaron spoke to the people, it was exactly what God had spoken to Moses. Many times in a team, you may have a leader that God calls, but when people speak for him, they say different things. They express words that are not in the spirit of what he has received. But Aaron said exactly what God had given to Moses, and beyond that, he did the signs that God had given to Moses.
Remember, he was not there; God did not give him the signs, but by association with Moses, he was able to do the same signs. That means whatever God gave to Moses was transferable; it wasn’t only for Moses, it was transferable. Here we see it transferred to Aaron, and Aaron transferred the knowledge to the elders. That is the process that we must learn. So here we see a team working together: Moses and Aaron. For Moses and Aaron, their tasks differed at various times. On this occasion, Aaron is the speaker, but on other occasions, Moses was the speaker. On other occasions, God used Moses to do things that were unique to Moses; he didn’t use Aaron to replicate it. There are times when God used Aaron to do things that Moses was not a part of, but it was a formidable team, a team of brothers who understood the higher calling of God, the higher purposes of God, and achieved it.
One sign that you must always look forward to when God joins you together is this joining of spirits, minds, and words, where we are able to agree, be part of something, and do great things for God. When you are part of such a team, don’t just be on your own trying to express your own feelings and saying, «Well, I want to be my own person. I want to be my own man. I don’t really trust you; you are my younger brother, you are my junior, I have more than you.» Whatever the connotation may be, here we see a team working together: Moses, Aaron, and the elders working together. This is how the mission to liberate Israel started. I pray that God will join you to somebody and gather a team around you so that the work He has given to you will be accomplished. Don’t just run it alone; run it with the person that God has placed in your life.
Let us pray. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, help me to feel secure in the role you have called me to play. Use me to do your will where I am. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.»
