Mensa Otabil - Well Able (10/27/2025)
Welcome to day number 13 of our 40 days of power, and I trust that you are moving in strength. You are moving in the power of the Lord; you’re moving in the power of the Holy Spirit, and I believe that God is opening major doors for you this week. We are talking about breaking barriers. Barriers are things that stand between us and the purposes of God for our lives, and you’re not going to just stand there and allow them to resist you. You’re going to move those barriers and be in the place that God has for you.
So we look at Numbers chapter 13, verse 30. Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, «Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.» The story of Israel is like our story; when we read about them, it’s almost like reading about us. We read about their unbelief, their doubts, and their struggles, and these are the kinds of things we all go through. For many years, God has promised them that He is taking them to the Promised Land, and they’ve waited for years. Now they are just about at the entrance of the Promised Land, and they are about to go in and take it. The people said, «No, we can’t because it’s impossible. There are giants in the land,» and all of that. Caleb speaks to them and tells them, «No, we can do it.»
There are a couple of things we read about Caleb. The first thing he did is that he quieted the people; he calmed them down. You know, many times when you are agitated and something hits you, and your mind is going in circles, you need somebody to calm you down. Maybe you need a Caleb; and if you don’t have a Caleb, maybe you have to calm yourself down, or perhaps you go to church and hear a sermon, and it calms you down. Because if you don’t have a quiet spirit, it’s difficult for you to truly stand in the authority of God’s Word and see His power at work in you.
The second thing Caleb did is he encouraged the people. You know, when things are going badly in our lives, we all need encouragement. Somebody says, «Well, but it’s encouragement; maybe it will not work.» But ask yourself the question: do you want somebody discouraging you or somebody encouraging you? It’s better to receive encouragement, even if the problem is difficult. You need something to tell you it’s possible because you’re going to make an effort. You’re going to make an effort believing; you’re going to make an effort in your action. There’s something you’re going to do to get out of it. And today I speak encouragement to you; may the Lord encourage you, may the Lord strengthen you, and I declare to you wherever you are that you are well able because God is with you.
The third thing we see about Caleb, very importantly, is that he told the people to act quickly. He says, «Let’s go up at once.» You know, when God gives you an opportunity, you don’t wait; you enter it. When God opens the door, you don’t pray for the door to be opened; you enter the open door. And sometimes we pray for things that God has already made available to us, those He has opened, the right people He has brought our way, but we still want to continue asking and asking and asking. But Caleb says, «Act, act, don’t ask.» And in this time, as we pray and fast, there may be things in your life that you’ve prayed about that God wants you to take a step of faith with. It’s going to be scary; it may not seem like something that will work for you, but you have to take a step of faith, and you have to trust God that He will not fail you and He will not forsake you.
The fourth thing we read about Caleb is that he saw victory ahead before the victory came. He could imagine it; he saw it in the eye of his spirit, because many times the victories we have in life, we see them before we enter them. Because if you cannot see it, it’s going to be difficult to believe it, and if you cannot believe it, it’s going to be difficult to receive it. So you have to see it with the eye of faith. And so I see you going higher; I see you breaking through; I see you doing mighty things for God, and I see you succeeding for the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let’s pray. Sit with me: Heavenly Father, I recognize your presence in my life. By faith, I possess all your promises for me in Jesus' name. Amen and amen. Well, I’ll catch you again tomorrow. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
