Mensa Otabil - Standing In Faith (10/27/2025)
Thank you. Welcome to day number 21 of our 40 days of power. We’re starting the last half, or the second half, of our fasting, and the Lord will help us through this week. We are talking about growing our faith. How does our faith grow? We’ve looked at Mary, we’ve looked at the Syrophoenician woman, and today we go to the Old Testament in Exodus chapter 14, verse 13. And Moses said to the people, «Do not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.»
That’s a very remarkable story. It’s a story we all love because it talks about the profound work of God in delivering Israel not only from slavery but from the pursuit of the enemy. You know, many times we go through life and we feel that something is running after us and wants to destroy us. I don’t know what you feel is running after you, just like the Israelites felt Pharaoh’s army coming after them. It will not catch up to you; it will not destroy you. God will give you the victory. We see Moses telling the children of Israel how to receive from God, and we can learn so much from Moses and his admonition to the children of Israel.
How do we operate in faith when we feel the enemy coming against us and we feel pressure mounting upon us? How do we handle it? What should we do? Well, the first thing Moses tells them is, «Do not be afraid.» Isn’t that simple enough? We hear that admonition over and over and over in Scripture. God tells His children, «Don’t be afraid. Don’t panic. Relax. Trust Me.» It’s a very simple but very important injunction because when you’re afraid, your eyes are off God. You don’t see the magnitude of His power; you don’t see His awesome power.
When you’re afraid, all you see is the enemy coming against you. You don’t see the Deliverer who is coming to rescue you. Fear distorts our view of God; fear distorts our faith. That’s why the Bible always encourages us, «Don’t be afraid. Fear not. Don’t magnify the enemy; magnify the Lord God Jehovah.» And then Moses says to them, «Stand still.» Stand still means don’t move. You know, faith is a stand we take. We take a stand on the Word of God; we stand on the Word of God. We say, «God has said it; I believe it; that settles it. God says it will be; I believe it will be,» and you stand there.
When you stand there, there will be pressure for you to move from where you’re standing. So Moses says to them, «Stand still. Don’t move. Don’t move in your faith; don’t move in your trust. Stand still.» And then the third thing he says to them: «Fear not; stand still,» and then he says, «See.» Most things that God wants to do for us, He wants us to see with the eye of faith, with the eye of the spirit. When you are operating by fear, you don’t see the salvation of the Lord. When you’re operating by fear, all you see is the pressure coming against you.
That’s why the Bible says, «Don’t fear,» because it is when fear is out that you can see the salvation of the Lord. You can see ahead into the future and see what God is doing in your life. I don’t know what you’re going through in your life and what you’re praying for, and I just want to bring the same word of God to you: «Don’t be afraid; stand still. Stand where you are; stand on the Word of God; stand on the promise of God; stand on the faithfulness of God. Just be assured that God is who He says He is and stand there. When the winds blow, stand. When the storms come, stand. When pressure mounts, stand. And then, after you’ve stood, let the Word of God create a picture of the future in your mind.
See the salvation of the Lord; see the miracle of the Lord; see what the Lord has done; see what the Lord is doing; see what God is about to open up in your life. Stand still; see the salvation of the Lord. And that’s how we stand against the pressures of life and win the battles of life.
Let us pray. Pray with me: Heavenly Father, I take my stand on Your Word. By faith, I see Your salvation and great deliverance in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen and Amen.
