Mensa Otabil - Open the Way (10/27/2025)
Welcome to day number 30 of our 40 days of power. The Lord has been our strength in these 30 days, and we trust that He will continue to be our strength in the 10 days remaining. May the Lord help us to be the kinds of people that He wants us to be. This week, we’ve been looking at the subject of exercising dominion and exploring ways in which we can live a triumphant life for Christ Jesus, our Lord.
So we go to Second Kings, chapter 2, verses 13 and 14. Then he also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, struck the water, and said, «Where is the God of Elijah?» And when he had also struck the water, it divided this way and that, and Elisha crossed over. Elisha had spent much of his adult life following Elijah; for 20 years, he was Elijah’s servant, and Elijah was the man of God who knew God profoundly.
At the end of the life of Elijah, Elisha wanted to be like Elijah, so he said, «I want a double portion of what you have.» He received a double portion of the anointing. Now Elijah is gone, and Elisha has to determine whether God is with him or not. When he was with Elijah, Elijah was able to open the Jordan River. Can Elisha do the same?
One of the things we notice is that God anointed Elisha; the spirit of Elijah rested upon him. This doesn’t mean the natural spirit of Elijah; it simply means that God gave Elisha a double portion of what He had given to Elijah. It is the Holy Spirit who anoints, not a man, but the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit poured forth the grace upon Elijah unto the life of Elisha. If you want God to do something for you, remember that God may use people, but the anointing does not come from people; it comes from God. The favor, the grace, the ability, the power-God uses human instruments, but that power comes from God. What Elisha received came from the Holy Spirit of God, from God Himself; and you must always remember not to equate a person God is using with God.
The second thing you notice is that he came upon the same obstacle that Elijah had faced: the Jordan River had opened and closed up. Now Elisha is going back, and the Jordan River is closed up. So he said, «Where is the God of Elijah?» Not «where is Elijah?» but «the God of Elijah.» The truth is, the God of Elijah is also the God of Elisha; He’s my God and your God. God is not personalized to people. People may know Him profoundly, but God is for all who trust in Him.
Elisha experienced a visitation from God, the uniqueness of God, and God opened the Jordan River for him. The same thing He did for Elijah, He did for Elisha. What does it teach us? Now, what God does for one person, He can do for you because His Holy Spirit is the same. It is the God of Elijah, the God of Elisha, the God of Mensa Otabil, the God of you-whoever you are. The same God of the Bible belongs to all of us, and He can do for you what He did for people in the Bible.
Then, when the Jordan River opened, Elisha crossed over. I just believe that God is going to open access for you and cause you to cross over as He did for Elisha. There may be obstacles in front of you, but the God you serve, the God you believe in, the God of the Bible, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, will make a way for you. If there is an obstacle in front of you, it opens right now in Jesus' name.
Let’s pray. With me, Heavenly Father, You have anointed me with Your spirit. I command every door that stands before me to open in Jesus' name. Amen and amen.
