Mensa Otabil - Believing the Word
TOPICS: Word to Go, 40 Days of Power

Thank you. Welcome to a brand new week and to the 19th day of our 40 Days of Power. We are seeking the face of the Lord; we’re praying, we’re trusting God, and I believe that you are beginning to see God’s supernatural power at work in you and through you. This week, we are focusing on growing in faith. You know, fasting by itself will not answer your prayer; faith has to be exercised when we pray. During a time of fasting, it’s important for us to learn how to operate in faith as we pray. This week, we are focusing on growing in faith.

We go to Luke’s Gospel, Chapter 1, verses 37 and 38. «For with God, nothing will be impossible.» Then Mary said, «Behold the maidservant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.» And the angel departed from her. Mary received a stupendous promise from the angel of the Lord that she was going to be the mother of the long-awaited Messiah. For her, this was a life-changing promise of God. It would be for each one of us if God said He was going to do something as massive as that in our lives.

What do we do when we encounter a promise of God that is so big, far bigger than our wildest dreams and expectations? Do we reject it? Do we receive it? How do we approach the promises of God? From Mary, we learn how to approach a word of God that comes to us. The first thing we see from her is that she offered herself to the Lord. She said, «Lord, behold the handmaiden of the Lord.» What does that mean? Mary is saying, «What you’ve told me is great, but I’m here. I’m available. If God wants to do it through me, I am available.»

You know, many times when we read the Bible or we read the word of God and we see things that God says He will do for His children, or for the righteous, or for those who trust in Him, we look at it and would say, «Oh, it may be for somebody else, but not for us.» But Mary said, «I’m available, Lord,» and it’s remarkable that she doesn’t deny the promise; she doesn’t reject the promise, but she is available for it.

If you want to walk in faith, the first thing you want to do is to make yourself available to God and be submitted to Him. The second thing is that she claimed the promise of God. She said, «Let it be to me according to your word.» In other words, «You have said it, but now I want it to happen to me.» If God says He will supply all your needs, you have to be able to say, with Mary, «Let it be to me according to your word.» If He says, «I am the Lord that heals you,» you should be able to say, «Let it be to me according to your word.» That means you are taking the word of God and planting it in your heart.

You know, many times people say things like, «If God wants to do it, once He has said it, it will happen.» There is a truth about that when it comes to the sovereign acts of God, but when God wants to do something personally for us, we have to believe it and believe His word. We have to act on His word, and His word becomes a personal choice: «Let it be to me according to your word.»

Today you should be able to look into the scripture and say, «Let it be to me according to the will of God.» It is when she did that that she received the impossible. This week, I believe that God wants to do things considered impossible in your life. Hitherto impossible actions will become possible in your life. What is far bigger than you will happen to you. What people have expected to happen to them and it hasn’t happened-the good things, the miracles of God, the favor of God-it will happen to you. You have to learn, with Mary, to say, «I’m here, Lord; let it be to me according to your word,» and it will be done.

Let’s pray. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, you can do all things. I declare that the impossible will be made possible in my life, in Jesus' name. Amen and amen.»
