Mensa Otabil - Act on the Word (10/26/2025)
Thank you. Welcome to day number 23 of our 40 days of power. We trust God for His strength, for His guidance, for His leading, and for His help as we seek Him. As you know, this week we are talking about growing our faith. Faith has to be developed; it has to grow bigger and stronger in the Lord Jesus Christ. So we focus on Matthew chapter 14, verses 28 and 29. And Peter answered Him and said, «Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.» So He said, «Come.» And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
A very remarkable story. Peter is a fisherman; he knows you don’t walk on water. But he saw Jesus walking on water, and something lit inside of him. He believed that he could also walk on water. You know, many times faith is triggered when we see something happen in other people’s lives, or we see somebody who has believed God and received a miracle. It grows our faith to also believe God. In this case, Peter saw Jesus walking on water, and he believed he could also walk on water. In a time of prayer, as you seek the Lord, as you listen to other people’s testimonies, as you read about people’s testimonies in the Bible, it inspires your faith to also believe God will do the same for you.
When Peter realized a miracle could come his way, that God could do something great with him, he asked a question. He made a request: «Lord, if it is You, bid me to come.» That’s the request he made. If it is You, and it’s a very reasonable and very spiritual request. «Lord, if You are the one who is doing this, then show me the way. Lord, if You are the one who did it for this person or for that person, then Lord, I want to experience You too.» Once we can validate that an action is from God, then we can lay claim to it. If we cannot validate it, then we cannot lay claim to it.
So Peter says, «Lord, if it is You, bid me to come to You.» If you want to really know whether something is from God, ask Him, and He will show you whether it is of Him or not. Then Jesus said, «Yes, it’s me, Peter.» And Jesus issued a command. He didn’t give the ABCs on how to walk on water; He didn’t give him a lecture on how to walk on water; He didn’t give him a thesis on how to walk on water. Jesus only issued one word: «Come.» That’s all God is going to say. He’s not going to give you a long lecture on how this works and that works. You’re just going to trust one word from the Lord.
You know, many times when people are believing God for a miracle, they want details; they want more information. «So how would it be? Will the water support me? Will the water become ice? Will there be a metal under the water?» That’s not what God is interested in. He only says, «Come.» He’s going to say, «Step out.» He’s going to say, «Do it.» He’s going to say, «Stop.» Many times God just speaks to us in one-word instructions or two-word instructions. In this case, it’s one word: «Come.» That word from the Creator has power.
«Come from me» doesn’t mean much, but «Come from Jesus» means a lot. «Go from Jesus» means a lot. «Help from Jesus» means a lot. Just one word from the Lord can change the circumstances of your life. And Peter acted on that one word. He stepped out, and he stepped on the authority of the word of God on the water. Every experience of his tells him you cannot walk on water, but the word of God undergirded his feet, and he was able to walk on water. I don’t know what experiences you have; maybe every experience tells you this cannot happen, this would not happen. But the word of God is a sure ground, the sure foundation on which you can act.
Let’s pray with me. Heavenly Father, Your word is living and active. By faith, I step out from the natural into the supernatural. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.
