Mensa Otabil - The Excellence of God (10/23/2025)

Mensa Otabil - The Excellence of God
TOPICS: Word to Go

Well, this whole week we've been talking about excellence and how to produce excellent work and how people should view our work. We're going to the foundation of everything; we're excellent because God is excellent, and that is God's nature. We go to Psalm 8, verse 9: "Oh Lord, our God, how excellent is your name in all the earth!" This is the reason why we seek to be excellent, because the name of the Lord, the reputation of the Lord, is an excellent one. Because we have come from Him, and we are His children, we seek to imitate Him, to mimic Him in His nature, so that as His name is excellent, our name will also be excellent.

You know, normally in our world today, when we talk about a name, we're talking about a brand of people. God has an excellent brand, and He wants us also to have an excellent brand, that our name will be excellent. When we say that the name of the Lord is excellent, we're not just talking about His name as it is spelled; we're talking about His nature, who He really is, who He is in essence. God is excellent; He's excellent love, He's excellent light -He brightens wherever He is. That is His nature. God cannot be not excellent, for everything that He is, there is something superlative about Him. Nothing can be compared to Him. He has no comparison; there's none besides Him, none before Him, none behind Him. He is God all by Himself; His nature is superlative. It's super; He's excellent by nature.

Not only that, His word is excellent. When we say that His name is excellent, it means when He gives His word, you can trust it, and that's something we also want to imitate. We want to be people of excellence. We want our nature to be excellent, and we want our word to be excellent. We want that when we say something, we do it. The reason why we trust God is because His word is trustworthy, and we see it in the written Scriptures. He says, "Let there be," and there is. When we also say, "Let there be," there must be. If you say, "I'm going to be there at this time," then we have to be there at this time. If I say, "I'm going to do this," then I do it, because that is how we also become excellent in our word.

God is excellent in nature; His word is excellent, and not only that, His works are excellent. He has a nature which is manifested in what He says, but He doesn't end with what He says. He also manifests excellence in what He does. So, on three levels-God's name, God's brand, God's reputation-is excellent because His nature is excellent, His word is excellent, and His actions are excellent. That is what we've been called to as Christians. Of course, we cannot be God, and we cannot operate at His level-there's no possibility of that-but we imitate Him. That means we live approximate to Him; we do what He does at the human level, not at a god level. At a human level, we also develop a nature that is superlative; we develop a word that is superlative, a word that has value, a word that is virtuous, words that can be trusted.

When we put out our work and people see what we have done, they should be able to say, "This one has gone beyond the normal," and that is our imitation of God. So we seek to be excellent because God is excellent; His name is excellent, His brand is excellent, His nature is excellent, His words are excellent, and His works are excellent. Let's pray.

Heavenly Father, you are excellent in all your ways; my life testifies to your word and your works. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.
