Mensa Otabil - The Lord Has Heard Me

Mensa Otabil - The Lord Has Heard Me
TOPICS: Word to Go

Well, in the spirit of our 40 Days of Power, as we’ve ended it yesterday, I just felt that our meditations this week will focus on the 40th Psalm. So, we’re going to look at Psalm 40 from now until the end of the week, and I start with verses 1 and 2.

Psalm 40: I waited patiently for the Lord, and He inclined to me and heard my cry. He also brought me out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my path. I believe the words of this Psalm express our sentiments to the Lord after these 40 Days of Power.

So, we announce boldly with David that the Lord has heard our cry. David starts and says, «I waited patiently for the Lord.» That means that he spent time waiting on the Lord, probably praying with prayer and fasting, and he says the Lord heard me. There are a couple of things I want you to note from the verse. First, he says, «the Lord inclined to me.» The word «incline» means to turn your attention to something; it’s almost like paying an attentive ear to somebody who is calling to you. The Lord inclined to me. When God’s children call upon Him, He pays attention to them. The Lord does not ignore the prayers of His children; the prayer of faith of His children, He inclines His ear to us, and I trust that God has inclined His ears to your prayer.

The second thing David said is that the Lord brought me out. Basically, he’s saying the Lord delivered me, and he says the Lord delivered me out of the horrible pit and out of the miry clay. The miry clay is a kind of clay in the region he lived in, where people would step in and begin to sink. Because there’s no rock for you to find your feet when you start sinking in the miry clay, you keep going and going; you can have nothing to stand on to bring you up. And he says, «When I’m in the miry clay, going down with nothing to bring me up, the Lord reached out and lifted me up.» The Lord has delivered you; the Lord has lifted you up. And if you were in the miry clay, the Lord has brought you out of the miry clay.

The Lord brought David out of the horrible pit, and He’s brought us out of the horrible pit. Then he says the third thing: the Lord set my feet upon a rock. God delivered him from the miry clay, sinking down, and then planted him. He didn’t plant him back on the miry clay but established him on a rock. God does not deliver us to put us back into bondage. God does not help us to go back into the same trouble we were in. When God delivers us out of the miry clay, He establishes us in a safe and secure place. He puts our feet on the rock, and the rock is Jesus. When our feet and our faith are anchored in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have solid rock; we build like the wise man, and our house does not fall to the ground.

So, the Lord inclined, the Lord delivered, the Lord set our feet on the solid rock, and the fourth thing that David says God did for him is that the Lord established my steps. That means that God ensured that what He had done for David would not be lost. He established his steps; He ordered his steps; He directed him, He guided him where he should go. So, God inclines, God delivers, God sets our feet, and then He begins to guide us. He begins to order our steps; He begins to establish our feet so that we don’t fall into the miry clay again. We have the victory, and we’re not going to lose the victory in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let’s pray. Say with me: Heavenly Father, You have done so much for me. You have heard me, delivered me, and established me. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.
