Mensa Otabil - Peace Like a River

Mensa Otabil - Peace Like a River
TOPICS: Word to Go

This is day number 35 of our 40 days of power. We have five more days to go; we’re getting there gradually. We have talked about God increasing us. He increases us with His Spirit, and He increases us materially. Today, we are focusing on His peace. Isaiah 66, verse 12, states, «For thus says the Lord: Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream; then you shall feed on her sides, you shall be carried, and be dandled on her knees.» In a turbulent and uncertain world, we need God’s peace. God blesses His children with His peace. You know, we live in days of uncertainty, and every day on the news media, we are bombarded with one bad thing happening somewhere in the world or close by us. Hour after hour, there seems to be a competition to determine who comes up with the worst news first.

As we listen to and discuss all these things happening all over the world, if we don’t guard our hearts, we can get upset, and we lose our peace. So God blesses us with peace, and I pray in this season, no matter what you hear, the peace of God will surround you; the peace of God will protect you. In our passage, God talks to His children, Israel, and He is still talking to us as His children today. He speaks about the peace He provides for us, and His peace allows us to live by faith and not by fear.

Three things I want you to pay attention to from this verse: First, God’s peace flows to us. The Lord spoke about the peace He gives to His people as flowing like a river. One thing about rivers is that they flow from upstream to downstream, so peace comes from above and flows down to us. The peace of God flows from His presence and reaches us wherever we are, wherever we are located. Because the Lord is higher than us, His peace will always be higher than us. I pray that wherever you find yourself, even in a valley, the peace of God will flow there. If you’re in a corner and nobody sees you, the peace of God will flow to you. May the Lord surround you with peace and take away every fear, anxiety, and worry from your heart.

The second thing about the peace of God is that it carries us. The Lord describes His peace as flowing like a stream. He surrounds us with His peace, but He also guides us with His peace. The peace, like the river, carries us and takes us to places. May the Lord carry you on peaceful ways; may your movement be peaceful, your going in be peaceful, your sleep be peaceful, and your waking up be peaceful. May the Lord carry you with His peace.

The third thing He says about His peace is that His peace nourishes us. He says that He will feed them with His peace. May the peace of God nourish our souls, feed us, surround us, uphold us, and strengthen us. God’s peace is what helps us find our rest in Him because He gives us our daily bread. Times may be hard; times may be tough, but God is still who He is. He never changes; He never becomes a smaller God or a lesser God. He’s still the Almighty God, and He is able to provide for your needs. So just rest in Him, trusting that He will give you your daily bread. You may not have excessive abundance, but He will always give you what you need for each day. May the peace of God nourish you, may the peace of God carry you, and may the peace of God flow to you every day of your life.

Let us pray. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, I receive the flow of Your peace in my life. I know You are always with me. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.»
