II Corinthians chapter 4 verse 13: «And since we have the same spirit of faith according to what is written, 'I believed; therefore I spoke, ' we also believe and therefore speak.» This passage teaches us some very important truths about faith, because if we’re going to overcome in life, we have to walk by faith. We have to live by faith. The word of God must be in our hearts and in our mouths; that’s how faith operates. There are four thoughts that I want to share with you about faith from this passage.
The first is that faith is a spirit. We have the same spirit of faith. That means that faith is a spiritual reality. We don’t get faith from a physical source. You don’t get faith by running; you don’t get faith by going to the gym. You get faith from a spiritual source. You get it from the word of God. The word of God and the Spirit of God are the sources of faith. So anytime you want faith, you have to read the word of God, and you have to be in fellowship with the Spirit of God. That’s how you get faith. You don’t get it from the gym; you don’t get it from eating food; you don’t get it from watching television. You get it from the word of God and the Spirit of God. Faith is a spirit; it’s a spiritual reality.
Second, faith manifests in the physical. What does that mean? It means that faith takes what is spiritual and brings it to the physical realm. In His life and ministry, Jesus Christ used faith to do physical things. So though faith is spiritual, it is able to accomplish physical things. Jesus used faith to heal people physically; He used faith to still the storm physically; He used faith to turn five loaves of bread to feed many people. Now, all of these are physical acts, but their source was faith and faith is spiritual. So faith is spiritual; it comes from the word of God, it comes from the Spirit of God, but it is able to accomplish physical things.
So that’s the second thing we learn about faith: it is spiritual, but it manifests in the physical. Third, faith believes. Faith does not doubt God; faith does not doubt God’s word. When we operate in faith, we take God at His word. God says it; I believe it; that settles it. There’s no other argument. When God says it, I believe it; that settles it. Now, there are going to be all kinds of opportunities for you to doubt that, and people are going to say, «Oh, that is not real; that is not possible; that’s never happened before; it’s not scientific.» Faith is not scientific; science is not faith. Faith is different from science. So whoever says that you can tell a storm, «Be still,» and it will be still, that’s not scientific; science cannot do that, but faith does. Whoever says you can tell a blind man, «See,» and he will see, that’s not scientific; that’s faith. Faith is of God, and faith believes what God says.
Number four, faith speaks. So the passage says, «We have the same spirit of faith; I believed; therefore, I speak.» The words of our mouth must come from the meditations of our heart, and the meditations of our heart come from our meditation on the word of God. So you see the process: you meditate on the word of God; it becomes the meditations of your heart; and then it becomes the word of your mouth. So that what you say is a reflection of what is in your heart. But how do you get it in your heart? You get it in your heart by getting it from the word of God. That’s how faith counts. Faith comes from the word of God, in our heart and in our mouth. Faith is not silent; faith speaks; faith declares; faith manifests; faith brings what is inside out by a declaration. And Jesus did most of His miracles that way; He spoke them into reality. We have the same spirit of faith, and we can do the same.
Let us pray. Say with me: Heavenly Father, by faith I speak change, blessing, increase, and abundance into my life. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.
