Mensa Otabil - His Sure Promise
TOPICS: Word to Go

Welcome to day number three of our Fresh Start. We’re spending 21 days in prayer and seeking the face of the Lord, trusting God for a fresh beginning in the year 2023. We believe that God will do a new thing in our lives, that He will perfect His word in our lives, and that we will walk into this year fully assured of God’s presence with us.

So we go to Joshua chapter 21, verse 45: «Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel; all came to pass.» Now this is a summary of the life of Joshua after he led Israel after the death of Moses. The Bible describes the life of Joshua and Israel from the time they left the house of Egypt, and it says that everything God said came to pass. I believe that will be our testimony too. At the end of 2023, we can stand with Joshua and say these same words.

A couple of things we learn from this passage: one is that God’s word does not fail. God’s word does not fail. When God says He is going to do something, it doesn’t drop to the ground. It doesn’t fail; it doesn’t have a failure in it. God’s word will not fail. So if God has spoken something to you, don’t be afraid of it not coming to pass. Don’t say, «Oh, I don’t know whether this will happen or not.» God’s word does not fail.

The second thing to note is that God’s word to us is always good. He says, «Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken.» There are good things that the Lord has spoken to us. Of course, sometimes God speaks to His people, and it’s judgment because of sin. But frequently, when God speaks to His people, they have no sin; they are not in error; they are not transgressing His will. He speaks good things to them.

Even in the midst of judgment, He still speaks redemption and good things to us. So you can be sure that God has spoken good things to you. You say, «But I haven’t heard anything.» Whether you hear it or not, God has spoken good things about you. His thoughts towards you are good, and His words over your life are good. He said good things about Israel. He said, «I’m going to deliver you from Pharaoh’s house,» and He delivered them from Pharaoh’s house. He said, «I’m going to bring you out through the Red Sea,» and He took them through the Red Sea. He said, «I will feed you in the wilderness,» and He fed them in the wilderness.

He said, «I will protect you, and you will not be destroyed in the wilderness,» and they were not destroyed in the wilderness. He said, «I’ll take you through the Jordan River,» and He took them through the Jordan River. God’s word never fails, and all the good things He said never failed.

That leads us to the third point: that God’s word will come to pass. In Joshua’s case, it says, «All came to pass.» Isn’t that the testimony you want to give at the end of 2023? You want to be able to say, «All came to pass.» Every good thing that God said came to pass. When God said He would bless me, He blessed me. When God said, «I will gather,» I gathered. And whatever God said, He did it in our lives. All came to pass.

You know, many times we go through our own challenges, our own worries, our anxieties: «Will it happen? Will God do it? Will I experience it?» I just came to encourage you as we start these first few days of Fresh Start that God’s word will not fail, that God’s word towards you is good, and that all the good things God has said concerning you will all come to pass. 2023 is going to be the year when you testify, «All came to pass.»

Let us pray. Say with me: Heavenly Father, Your word for my life remains sure. In this year, I will see Your promises becoming my reality. In Jesus' name, Amen and Amen.
