Mensa Otabil - He Who Overcomes

Mensa Otabil - He Who Overcomes
TOPICS: Word to Go

This has been a great week. We’ve been talking about overcoming limitations, and this is day number 18 of our 40 days of power. We’ve looked at many people; we’ve examined individuals in the Bible who overcame limitations, whether it was their own sense of inadequacy or opponents out there. Then we’ve considered the New Testament and what it tells us about overcoming.

We are concluding our teaching on overcoming limitations with the last book of the Bible, the book of Revelation. Revelation chapter 21, verse 7 states, «He who overcomes shall inherit all things. I will be his God, and he shall be my son.» You know, that’s how everything ends in the Bible. It ends with us standing and overcoming, and that’s what God wants us to do with our Christian life. The Christian life is not something you live part-time; you don’t just go to church when you feel like it, and then when life is tough, you give up. Then, you wait for things to be nice before you continue.

We wrestle; we battle in the Christian life constantly. We battle within ourselves; we battle with our past, our mistakes, our limitations, our fears, and our anxieties, but we never stop because God wants us to win. Yes, you may go down a little bit, but you must come up. You may have some difficulties, but you must rise. No matter what you go through, you must determine, «I will overcome,» because that’s how it ends in the Bible. It is a book for overcomers, and God says those who overcome will receive an inheritance. The book of Revelation discusses the end times and details all the tribulations and trials that come to believers and the Antichrist. But in the end, we must overcome; in the end, we must win.

For us to overcome, there are two things we must do. First, we must remain faithful to the end. God has been faithful to us, so we must be faithful to Him. To be faithful means to be loyal, to hold on to something, and to stick with it. We must be faithful to God, and of course, beyond God, we must be faithful to ourselves, to our marriages, and to our Christian commitments. We must be found as people who don’t give up easily but who see things through to the end. That’s what faithfulness is all about.

Secondly, for us to overcome, we must maintain our confession in the Lord until the end. Our confession is what we say about God. If we say God is good, we respond, «He’s good all the time.» That is true in good times and in bad times. We don’t change our confession that God is good. If we say God is merciful, He’s merciful at all times. If we say God gives us victory, He gives us victory at all times. Don’t allow circumstances to determine your confession about God or what you say concerning Him.

Remember Jesus Christ before Pontius Pilate; the Bible says He maintained a good confession. He said He was the Son of God from the beginning and before Pilate; He didn’t change His mind. He didn’t say, «Oh, I’m sorry; I think I overstepped my boundaries.» He maintained who He was both when He was not under arrest and when He was under arrest. If we’re going to be overcomers, we must hold fast to our confession of faith and remain strong in faith. Those who do this, the Bible says, will have an inheritance. This week, I pray every inheritance of the overcomer will rest upon you, that in the coming week, you will walk in abundant victory as Christ has made you, in Jesus' name.

Let’s pray. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, thank You for my eternal reward. Help me to remain faithful to You at all times, in Jesus' name. Amen.»
