This week we’ve been talking about God’s peace, and we need God’s peace in these times and seasons that we live in. Life sometimes goes a bit off, and when it does, God is able to keep us in His peace. I believe that in these days, God’s peace will keep you and surround you in harmony. So, Colossians chapter 3, verse 15: «And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you are called in one body; and be thankful.» This is a general command to all Christians. Yes, we are members of the body of Christ; we belong to Christ, but it’s important that we also allow the peace of God to rule in our hearts. I believe that there are moments where we need this message a lot more, and this is one of those moments.
A couple of things to look at from this passage is that God’s peace rules in our hearts. God’s peace is like a referee in a football match. What does a referee do? The referee makes sure that offenses do not prevail in a football match. So, if there is a foul or an offense, the referee is going to stop it. In life, we get offended, and you’re going to have all kinds of offenses coming your way. Somebody’s going to hurt you, and if you’re not careful, you are going to be buffeted by so many offenses. You get into bitterness, and you lose your peace. Many times, people say, «You know, I’m not happy any longer; I have lost my peace.» Why? Because somebody offended us. God’s peace is there to ensure that the offenses that come our way and the offenses that hit us do not get so deeply ingrained in us that we lose our peace and become very troubled in this world.
So, he says, «Let the peace of God be the referee in your life. Let the peace of God rule in your life. Let the peace of God take away the offenses out of your life so that you can live a quiet and peaceable life.» The peace of God doesn’t just take offenses away from our lives or arrest the offenses in our lives, but the peace of God also settles our hearts. Sometimes, the peace of God is like a judge in a courthouse, one who is able to settle matters and maintain the balance of peace in a community. Let the peace of God be like the one who settles your heart because many times, you want to make a choice, and you’re unsure whether it’s the right way to do it or the left way. Should I do it this way or the other way? How are you going to find God’s way? God’s peace settles our hearts.
One mark of God’s peace in our hearts is when we are in the center of the will of God; He gives us peace and helps us find rest. This doesn’t mean that everything is going to be peaceful around us; it could be total chaos all around us, but His peace settles us and tells us it’s okay-God is with you, and you’re going to come through this. I pray that in the midst of all the chaos, God’s peace will settle your heart. It’s okay; you’re going to come through this, and you’re going to win because God will give us the victory. Let the peace of God settle your heart and rule your heart. The peace of God, which rules our hearts, also gives us a life of gratitude. We become grateful for what God orders in our lives, and when we allow God to guide our lives, that gratitude arises in us.
We become grateful for life; we become grateful to the Lord. We become grateful for all the good things He has done for us, and I pray that God will give you a heart of gratitude. You may not have everything, but be grateful for the things you have. Be grateful for the peace of God; be grateful for the presence of God; be grateful for the supply that God has given to you. I pray that God will give you a restful heart and a grateful heart.
Let’s pray. Say with me: «Heavenly Father, when there are scales all around, let Your peace continually rule my heart. In Jesus' name, Amen and Amen.»
