Mensa Otabil - Frogs Everywhere
TOPICS: Word to Go

Exodus Chapter 8, Verses 5 to 7: Then the Lord spoke to Moses, «Say to Aaron, 'Stretch out your hand with your rod over the streams, over the rivers, over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.'»

So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. The magicians did so with their enchantments and brought up frogs on the land of Egypt. The second plague also struck the waters of Egypt just as the first plague had. The first plague struck the waters and turned them to blood; this one struck the same system of waters and brought forth frogs from them.

So you may ask, «Why the frog?» Because the frog was a symbol of fertility, and the Egyptian god responsible for fertility was part frog. So God was hitting the source of the waters, the god of the Nile and the god of fertility. These are being disrupted, and their work has been interrupted. Now, having frogs in Egypt was quite normal; frogs were in the waters. What was going to be different was that the frogs were going to come upon the land. They were going to leave the waters, come into the habitations of the people, enter their homes, get into their bedrooms, get under their bed sheets, and invade every aspect of their lives.

So this is the unique aspect: the frogs are leaving the waters and coming onto the land. What is happening is that God is disrupting the Egyptian deities, if they so existed. God is disrupting their work, and He’s literally saying, with perhaps a sense of humor, «If you think you are the god of fertility, see if you can match this.» So right in the Nile, there is fertility of frogs; there is an abundance of frogs. Every egg spawns, and every tadpole grows into a full-grown frog, and they come upon the land and overwhelm it.

So God takes what they claim is their power and turns it against them. He’s disrupting the spiritual forces controlling Pharaoh, controlling Egypt, and, by extension, keeping His people in bondage. This is what is happening: the frogs came out from the waters to the land. As usual, the sorcerers of Egypt tried to counter what Moses had done. What did they do? They made a bad situation worse. They couldn’t stop the frogs, nor could they push the frogs back into the waters; they just produced more frogs on the land.

So yes, they were doing something so-called supernatural, but it didn’t help the people. That’s something you must be mindful of: sometimes people do things that seem supernatural but do not help you. They may give you a so-called prophetic word that seems accurate, but it worsens your marriage: it makes your life worse; it’s just wasting your life. The sign of what they’re doing is that it makes your life worse. It doesn’t improve your life; it doesn’t solve your problems. This is the manifestation happening here: God disrupts the Egyptian gods, shows them He is superior to them, and proves He can manipulate what they think they have against them.

In all of these things, the magicians are helpless. They compound the problem for the people; they make the situation worse, and the power of God is revealed without any match, without any hindrance in the land of Egypt. May the Lord disrupt every evil force that operates around you and give you victory in Jesus' name.

Well, let’s pray. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, disrupt every evil force that operates in my community and overturn their works in Jesus' name. Amen and amen.» Well, I’ll catch you again tomorrow. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
