This is day number 34 of our 40 days of power. We are in the last stretch of our days of consecration, and we go to Deuteronomy chapter 28, verses 3 to 4. Blessed shall you be in the city; blessed shall you be in the country. Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground, the increase of your herd, the increase of your cattle, and the offspring of your flocks. God’s blessings come upon us, and they come both spiritually and materially. God can make us spiritually prosperous; He can make us increase spiritually, and He can also make us materially prosperous. He can cause us to increase in wealth.
Many Christians only limit the blessings of God to spiritual things, and it’s true-God blesses us with His peace, with His joy, with His love, and with His grace. These are the valid blessings of God. But the Bible also teaches that God blesses us with material things so that our lives on earth can be lived productively. So, this week, may the Lord bless us not only spiritually but also materially. When you read the Bible, you’ll find that the blessings of God are not just poured out indiscriminately; God pours out His blessings based on some conditions.
In Deuteronomy chapter 28, He talks about obeying Him, and He says, «If you obey Me, walk in My ways, and do what I say you should do, then these blessings will come upon you and overtake you.» The blessings of God do not just pour out upon us because we are children of God; we have to walk in obedience to make the blessings of God real in our lives. In Deuteronomy chapter 28, God spoke to Israel about both blessings and curses, but in this particular passage, He is talking about the blessings-that’s our focus for this week. The blessing; we don’t want the curses; we want the blessing.
There are three things I want to highlight about God’s blessing. First is that God’s blessing goes everywhere. There is no geographical limitation to the blessing of the Lord. He said, «I’ll bless you in the village; I’ll bless you in the city.» So you cannot say, «Oh, where I live, God cannot bless me.» God can bless you wherever you are, whichever country you live in, or wherever you travel to or don’t travel to. God blesses us wherever we are, and so God can prosper you; God can increase you. Don’t ever think that your location is a disadvantage because in God’s economy, He is the supplier of our needs according to His riches in glory, not your geographical location. So God’s blessings go everywhere.
Secondly, God’s blessing affects our children, and that’s a theme you find in the Bible. When God blesses us, He doesn’t just look at you and say, «I’m just blessing you alone,» but God intends that whatever He pours into your life will be poured into your children and your children’s children for many generations after you. He did it to Abraham; He did it to David, and so on and so forth. So we find that the blessing of God is generational, and may the Lord’s blessing upon you be generational, upon your family, upon your children, and upon your children’s children in their generations-all blessed.
The third thing is that the blessings of God touch what we do. He said to Israel, «I’ll bless your flocks; I’ll bless your cattle; I’ll bless your farms.» Now most of us are not farmers. You probably work in computers; you are an engineer; you are a builder-whatever you do, God’s blessing will touch it. May the Lord bless the work of your hands; may He increase you; may He prosper you; may He cause you to flourish abundantly because you serve an abundant God, and there is no limit to what He can do for you and what He is doing in your life. In Jesus' name, let’s pray. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, I receive the blessings of obedience on my life. I am blessed everywhere I go. In Jesus' name, Amen.»
