Mensa Otabil - A Faithful God (10/08/2025)
This week, we are moving from our study of the book of Exodus, and I want to bring words of encouragement to each one of us throughout this week. As you know, our world has gone through a lot of difficulties from the COVID pandemic of the last two years, and now there is a war out there in Eastern Europe that is creating a lot of panic and anxiety for many people. So, I just want to encourage each one of us as we face these turbulent times that God is faithful.
Deuteronomy chapter 7, verse 9: «Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.» This is part of Moses’s instructions to Israel as he nears the end of his life, reminding them of God’s faithfulness. Moses understood the temperament of the Israelites; when they saw trouble, they forgot that God was faithful.
Then God gave them a miracle, and hooray, they got excited, but when they fell into trouble, they forgot the faithfulness of the Lord. He knew he had to assure them of God’s faithfulness because they were about to enter the Promised Land. There would be many uncertainties and battles ahead, but he told them, «Hey, remember, no matter what you go through, God is faithful, and He is a covenant-keeping God.»
That is the same message I want to bring to each one of us: no matter what we go through, what news we hear, or what happens around us, God is faithful. We serve a faithful God. As Christians, we are not immune to the attacks that come to our world; we are not immune to trouble. The Bible never assures us that we will live a trouble-free life; rather, it tells us there will be afflictions and hardships. Jesus Christ promises His followers that many troubles will come, but He said, «When you go through those, remember, I am with you,» and that God will deliver us.
We cannot be immune to the troubles of our world; they will come in different forms. Surely, the storms of life will come, often when we least expect them. Most of us wish that troubles would announce their presence ahead of time so we could prepare for them, but that would eliminate tests of our faith. Troubles come unexpectedly to test our faith.
Though we may not be expecting them, they still come, but God is faithful, and we trust Him on the mountain and in the valley. The same God of the daytime is also the God of the nighttime. When we see Him, He is faithful; when we don’t see Him, He is faithful. When we feel His presence, He is faithful; when we don’t feel His presence, He is faithful. That is the reality of our walk with God; it’s a walk of faith. We walk by faith and not by sight.
Things may be topsy-turvy all around us; there may be troubles everywhere, and we don’t know what is around the next corner or how things will pan out, but we know God will remain faithful in the dark and at night. So, I want to assure you: don’t lose control of your faith in God, and don’t lose confidence in God’s faithfulness. He is a covenant-keeping God. Your job is to trust that He will remain your constant in an ever-changing world; He will be there when nothing else is, and He will keep you and give you victory. So remember the faithfulness of the Lord this week as you go about your activities.
Let us pray: «Heavenly Father, You are a covenant keeper. I thank You, Lord, that in all situations, You remain faithful. In Jesus' name, Amen.» We serve a faithful God; trust Him, and He will pull you through. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
