Mensa Otabil - The Earth Is The Lord's
TOPICS: Word to Go

This is the 31st day of our 40 Days of Power, and welcome to a brand new week as we seek the Lord and proclaim God’s rule in our lives. This week, we’re going to focus on proclaiming God’s rule. This week will also be the last full week of our 40 Days of Power, as we end next week on Wednesday. So join us if you haven’t, and if you are joining us, then continue, and let’s finish strong in the Lord.

Psalm 24, verses 1 and 2: «The earth is the Lord’s and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein; for He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.» Psalm 24 proclaims God’s sovereignty in the affairs of our lives. We know clearly from Scripture that creation did not just come into being; creation was created by a Creator, Jehovah God Almighty. He made the earth and the fullness thereof; He made all things visible and invisible. So, in essence, the Lord is the owner of the earth, and He is also the owner of the people who dwell on it.

A couple of things I want you to pay attention to as we look at this psalm are the first two verses. First, God created a good earth; the earth is the Lord’s, but the earth God created is not a bad earth. Remember in Genesis when God created all things, He said that they were good, and when He finished, He said they were very good. God created a good earth; it is not an evil creation. It is not an evil place; it is a good place, and God created the earth to be His footstool, the place where He will manifest His glory. Of course, in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve sinned and brought the whole earth into judgment, but the earth, in its creative form, is a good place. God created a good earth.

Secondly, we see from this verse that God loves people because He created us. Even those who don’t like Him, He loves them. He loves those who hate Him; He loves those who blaspheme Him; He loves those who turn their backs on Him. God loves the people He has created. His love is what has allowed Him to be our Redeemer by sending Jesus Christ to die for our sins. So, God created a good earth, and God loves people.

The third thing is that God wants His people to enjoy the fullness of the earth. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof: the trees, the rivers, the mountains. God put mankind here to enjoy the fullness of His creation. Of course, this means that we have to enjoy it responsibly. We have to be good stewards of the earth God has created. We don’t deplete it, and we don’t destroy it. But God wants us to enjoy the fullness of the earth, and when we come to faith in Christ Jesus, we are now open to enjoy all the blessings that God has placed upon this earth.

You can enjoy the blessings of the earth; it will be good to you. The earth will produce fruit for you and create harmony in your life. The fourth thing I want us to note is that, in the end, God will establish His purposes on the earth. God created a good earth, God loves the people of the earth, and God wants the people who serve Him and worship Him to enjoy the fullness of the earth.

Ultimately, God will reclaim the earth for His purposes; His rule will be established upon this earth, and He will establish His purposes on it. Many times it looks like we’re just here by ourselves, managing our own affairs, and that God is not interested in our lives. No, God is interested in our lives, and we proclaim Him as the sovereign of the earth, as the ruler of the earth, as the one who rules over the people of the earth, even those who hate Him. He rules over them, and because He rules over all things and because we are submitted to Him, He makes the earth yield fruit for us.

May you have the most fruitful week this week as you start. May the Lord cause this week to be fruitful for you. May the earth yield its fullness for you. Let us pray. Say with me: «Heavenly Father, You are the King of the Universe. We proclaim Your dominion over our lives and all the earth. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.»

Well, that’s how we start this week. I’ll catch you again tomorrow. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
