Mensa Otabil - The Blessing of Fruitfulness
TOPICS: Word to Go, Fruitfulness

Welcome to day number 26 of our 40 days of power. I trust that you are growing spiritually; you are mounting up wings like an eagle and trusting God to honor His Word in your life. As you know, this week we are looking at claiming God’s promises and how God’s promises become real in our lives, or God’s expectations coming to life in us.

Today, we are discussing the blessing of fruitfulness, focusing on Genesis chapter 1, verse 28, one of my favorite verses in the Bible: «Then God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'»

This is what God said to our first parents after He created them; this is His promise to mankind. It comes in the form of a command: «Be fruitful,» but in another sense, it’s also a promise because it is God’s expectation that mankind will be fruitful. God created us to be fruitful people; He created you to be a fruitful person, and so we must be fruitful. Typically, we limit this command to having children. When we discuss being fruitful, people instantly think about having children, which is part of the command, but fruitfulness extends beyond that; it encompasses every area of our lives. We can be fruitful with our ideas; our minds can be fruitful, our hands can be fruitful, and our spirits can be fruitful.

When you look through the Bible, you find that there are many ways to be fruitful. God likens fruitfulness to so many different forms. When our minds become fruitful, they produce ideas; when our hands become fruitful, they produce works that we can see; when our spirits are fruitful, they produce virtue and character. These are some ways in which we can be fruitful. So, when God says, «Be fruitful,» He means that every part of you should be productive. God has called us to productivity, and because He has called us to productivity, He has equipped us to be fruitful.

Now, if you take a good look around you, everything around you is a manifestation of fruitfulness. Whether it’s the chair you sit on, that’s the fruit of somebody’s labor; the table is the fruit of somebody’s labor; the microphone is the fruit of somebody’s labor; the book you’re reading is the fruit of somebody’s labor. All of these things are expressions of fruitfulness, and part of what God wants for our lives is for us to be fruitful, full of fruit, so that at every moment and in every area, people can look at us and say, «This is a productive person.»

The concepts I want to leave with you are that God has called us to fruitfulness; it’s a calling. Because He has called us to be fruitful, we will be fruitful. He’s given us what it takes to be productive. Not only has He called us to be fruitful, but God has also gifted us with the seeds to be fruitful. Whatever we need, whether it’s a talent, a gift, or an idea, God provides it for us to be fruitful. Moreover, He has anointed us with the power to be fruitful. Whatever power is required for you to be fruitful, God has given it to you. This means that when you want to be fruitful, nothing can stop you because you are anointed for it; you have the seeds for it, and you have the calling on your life to be fruitful. There is nothing that can stand against this triple dose of God’s investment in your life to make you fruitful.

Today, as we claim the promises of God, let’s claim the blessing of fruitfulness in your life-that every work of your hand will be fruitful, that the ideas God gives you will be fruitful, that the things you touch will be fruitful, and that nothing will be fruitless in your life. That is God’s promise to you, and you can receive it.

So let’s pray. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, You are my Creator. Inspire me with creative ideas and concepts to do my work. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.» You are a fruitful person, and you will bear fruit every day of your life. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom-peace and life to you.
