Mensa Otabil - Speak Fruitful Words
TOPICS: Word to Go, Power of Words

Words are powerful and determine how fruitful our lives become. Proverbs chapter 12, verse 14: A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the recompense of a man’s hands will be rendered to him. A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth. The fruit of your mouth is the word that you speak, words that are produced from your mouth-that’s the fruit of your mouth. You are satisfied with good by the words you speak.

Words have tremendous impact on us; they can either make us fruitful or make us unfruitful. We can talk ourselves into victory or talk ourselves into defeat. Words are like the steering wheel of a car. James says that the words we speak are like the rudder of a ship; it turns the ship left or right. Your words will direct your life this way or that way. If you see your life going in the wrong direction, one of the things you should pause to ask yourself or to audit is: What have I been saying? How do I use words? What’s my conversation like? Because sometimes we talk negatively without knowing we are talking negatively.

When we walk with God, we agree with Him. Walking with God requires that we agree with Him, and agreeing with God is agreeing with His Word. When you look through the book of Genesis, chapter 1, we see the way God uses words, and that’s what He has created us to imitate: to use words the way He uses them. God says, «Let there be.» That’s how He uses words-not «It cannot be,» but «Let there be.» Not «It’s not possible,» but «Let there be.» And there was. God always says, «Let there be.» He speaks words or He uses words to call things that do not exist into existence, and if we’re going to be fruitful people, our words will play a very significant role in the way we call things into existence. «Let there be,» that’s the first way we see in Genesis chapter one.

The second way that God uses words is: «Let us make.» He calls Himself into action. God uses words to call Himself into action, so when we speak words, the words are either calling things into existence or calling us into action. That’s how we should use words. You cannot use words to demoralize yourself, to demote yourself, to reduce yourself, to ridicule yourself, and make yourself look like nothing. That’s not how God uses words. When we have fruitful thoughts, we must also have fruitful words, and with fruitful thoughts and fruitful words, using the gifts that God has given to us in a fruitful earth, there is no way your life will not be fruitful.

So instead of saying things like, «I cannot do it,» «It’s not possible,» «It’s too far,» «It’s too difficult,» «I’m too old,» «I’m too short,» «I’m too tall,» or whatever excuse you give yourself, instead of talking yourself down, why don’t you imitate your Maker? «Let there be.» Look at all the people who have done great things in our world; they normally start by talking about what will be. They would say, «Well, next year we’re going to do this; in the next two years, we’re going to invent this; in the next three years, we’re going to initiate that.» What are they doing? They’re saying, «Let there be» and «Let us make.»

There are people who would say, «Well, it’s just talk; it won’t amount to anything.» Who told you? God used words to create everything. Everything we see as reality came from words. And believe you me, everything man has invented came from words. People spoke about what they were going to do, and they did it. Without saying, «Let there be,» there will be nothing. So if you’re going to live a fruitful life, learn to use words the way God uses words: «Let there be.» Let there be victory. Let there be abundance. Let there be divine supply. Let there be joy. Let there be happiness. Let there be victory. May the Lord help you so that the words of your mouth will lift you to the place of fruitfulness. In Jesus' name, let us pray. Say with me: Heavenly Father, teach me to say the right words over my life. I declare that I am blessed of the Lord. In Jesus' name, amen and amen. You are blessed indeed, and I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom-peace and life to you.
