Mensa Otabil - Mighty Weapons In God (10/04/2025)
Welcome to day number 10 of our 40 days of power. We’ve completed a quarter of the journey, and the Lord will see us through to our journey’s end. This week, we will focus on taking authority. The Christian life is not just about living for God and being a good person; it is also about having spiritual authority and walking in that authority. That is the aspect we’ll be concentrating on this week.2 Corinthians 10:4-5: «For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exults itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of
God Christ.»
God has given us weapons to pull down strongholds. In ancient times, cities were fortified, meaning they were protected with levels of defense. Cities typically had a wall around them, and along the wall, they had towers where the city could defend itself. They would have people with bows and arrows to shoot at the enemy, and the cities also had gates. These were referred to as strongholds. A stronghold consisted of the wall, the tower, and the gate built to defend or protect a city. The Bible tells us, using this analogy, that there are strongholds in life. Just as ancient times saw the building of walls as strongholds, there are strongholds today. God has given us weapons to pull down the enemy’s strongholds. What the enemy has built-his walls, towers, and gates-can be pulled down to give us victory. So in our spiritual warfare, we confront and dismantle strongholds.
In the context of this passage, strongholds are described as arguments from those who reject God-these are strongholds. There are also ideas that contradict God’s knowledge and thoughts that rebel against the lordship of Jesus Christ. A stronghold is essentially anything that Satan has erected to resist the power of God, anything he has constructed in your family or life to ensure that God’s power cannot flow freely or have access.
This week, we are pulling down strongholds. Everything that stands between you and the flow of God’s power is coming down. Every idea, every concept, and every bit of knowledge that is lifted up against God is being brought down.To dismantle these strongholds, God has given us formidable weapons to fight with. However, the passage states that our weapons are not carnal; in other words, they are not physical. We do not engage in spiritual warfare by wielding guns, sticks, or bows and arrows. The Christian’s warfare involves unseen weapons. They don’t even come in a bottle of oil or a book; they are not carnal and cannot be seen.
So, what are these unseen weapons God has given us? He has given us His Word. It is unseen, but His Word serves as both a sword and a shield. It goes into attack and provides defense, destroying every work of the enemy while protecting us from all harm. The Lord has also provided us with the blood of Jesus, and our testimony is not carnal; we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. He has also given us the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. We do not see Him, but the Holy Spirit halts every flood of attack that comes against us. When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of God lifts up a standard against him.
These are the weapons of the believer: they are not carnal but mighty through God to pull down every stronghold of the enemy. If your faith is in carnal weapons, shift your faith to the spiritual weapons God has provided, and every stronghold will come down in Jesus' name.
Let’s pray. Say with me: «Heavenly Father, by faith, I come against every force of evil operating where I am. I pull it down and cast it out in Jesus' name. Amen and amen.» We are pulling down strongholds this week, and God is giving us authority to walk in the power of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I’ll catch you again tomorrow. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
