Welcome to a brand new week as we continue on our 40 days of power. This is day number 24 of 40 days of power; we’re getting there, and God has given us grace and strength to complete and see His glory manifested in our lives. This week, we’re exploring the idea of God’s promises and claiming God’s promises. Everything we discuss this week will be focused on God’s promises, and the prayers we pray will center on those promises.
We start with Second Corinthians chapter 1, verse 20: «For all the promises of God in Him are yes, and in Him amen, to the glory of God through us.» All the promises of God rest on God Himself. God promises us many things in His Word, but every promise He gives us is based on Himself. God promises to be good to us because He is good. God promises to provide for us because He is a provider. God promises to heal us because He is a healer. So, the promises of God come from the nature of God. Who He is is what gives us the promise that we can trust Him to do all the things that He does for us because He is a deliverer. He promises to deliver us.
When God makes a promise, it is based on Himself. A promise is a commitment that is made with the intention of fulfillment. When God says, «I’m going to do something for you,» it’s based on Him, but it’s also because He intends to do it for us. God is not in the business of just issuing promises; He is in the business of fulfilling them in our lives. So, all the promises of God in Christ are yes and amen. God is true, so His promises are true, and that’s the foundation of every promise of God. God is not a man that He should lie; His promises are true. They are the reality, and He doesn’t give us false hope; He gives us reality. His promises are true.
Secondly, God is faithful, so His promises are faithful. This means we can rest our faith in the promise of God. We can trust in His promise, and we can be safe in His promise because of His faithfulness. He stands behind His Word; He backs His Word up. That’s His faithfulness. God is faithful, and because of that, His promises are faithful and dependable.
God is a creator, so His promises are creative, and that’s an interesting thought. It means that when God says, «I’m going to do something,» even if what He wants to do doesn’t exist, He will create it. We see this from the book of Genesis; when there was no light, He created light. He said to Abraham, who had no child, «I have made you the father of many nations.» That’s a promise, and that promise is based on God’s ability to create what does not exist. So, when God gives you a promise, even if nothing like that exists in creation, He will bring it to pass; He will make it happen.
All these promises that God gives to us are in Christ Jesus. When you look at the Bible, all the Old Testament promises that God gave for the redemption of mankind were fulfilled by the Lord Jesus Christ. We say that in Christ Jesus, all the promises of God became yes and amen. Because we have Christ Jesus in our hearts, the promises of God toward us are also yes and amen. That simply means it is done. When God says, «I’m going to do it,» consider it done.
Usually, God’s promises to us have two parts: what He says He will do and what we must do for Him to honor His Word. We call this a condition. God says, «I’m going to do it,» but He wants us to do something. Essentially, He wants us to trust Him, believe in Him, and walk in His ways and will, and all His good promises will be fulfilled in our lives. This week, we’re expecting the fulfillment of promises.
Let us pray. Say with me: «Heavenly Father, Your promises are true and guaranteed. I receive from Your fullness and abundance today in Jesus' name. Amen and amen!» Well, I’ll catch you again tomorrow. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
