Mensa Otabil - God Rules In the Affairs of Men
TOPICS: Word to Go

Welcome to day number 33 of our 40 days of power; just one week to go. Next week, at this time, it will be the last day of 40 days of power. We have seven days to pray, to push through for our breakthrough, to thank God, and to declare God’s rule in our lives. Daniel chapter 4, verse 17: This decision is by the decree of the watchers, and the sentence by the word of the holy ones, in order that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, gives it to whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men. The old King James says the Most High rules in the affairs of man.

In the situations of life, God rules. Sometimes it looks as if human beings rule, and people throw themselves about and throw their weight around. They call all the shots and determine how everything turns out. But this day, we proclaim that the Lord rules in the affairs of men, and it is especially so when we see evil and impunity go unrestrained, unlimited. But the Lord rules in the affairs of man. This revelation came to King Nebuchadnezzar; the book of Nebuchadnezzar had this verdict from God. When he thought he was the Almighty, his armies had conquered the nations around him. His kingdom, Babylon, was a supreme kingdom, and at the height of his governance, he felt there was nothing like him. He would resist every other god, including Jehovah God. But God visited him and gave him a decree from His heavenly council and said, «Know this: that the Lord rules in the affairs of men.» After this, Nebuchadnezzar lost his sanity and went into depravity.

So, what do we learn from this? First, that God sees what goes on in our lives; He watches over our lives. God keeps a keen eye on everything that is going on in the earth. Life on earth doesn’t just spin by itself. People don’t just determine how things are going to go. You know, there are people with so much money, so much power, and so much influence who think they can determine the destiny of other people. But today, we proclaim that God rules in the affairs of men. The second thing we learn is that God guides the histories of this world for His purposes. Sometimes things happen that we can’t figure out. He does not always guide every event, but God uses all events for His glory.

So, even what was meant for evil, God uses for His good. There may be someone who is planning evil and thinks, «Oh, his evil plan is going to succeed,» but God will thwart the evil plan and use it for the good of His purpose and for the good of His children. So, God guides human history; we are in the midst of God’s grip, and He’s guiding human history towards His purposeful end.

The third thing I want you to note is that God’s rule overrules all human rule. Yes, there are powerful people in the world, but God overrules them. There are people who may decree, but God overrules them. There are people who conspire, but God overrules them. There are people who plan, but God overrules them. God’s rule overrules every human rule. That’s something Nebuchadnezzar had to learn, sadly, but he learned it. He had to learn there is a ruler of the universe, and He is bigger than King Nebuchadnezzar. The fourth point is that God will bring evil down. Evil may be exalted; it may sit on the throne, but God will bring it down. Why? Because God rules in the affairs of men. Listen, your life is not in your hands, and the destiny of your life is not in somebody’s hands. God rules in the affairs of man, and He will rule over your life. So today, we join all the forces of God, the angels of God, and we declare that God rules in the affairs of man.

Let us pray. Say with me: Heavenly Father, You rule in the affairs of men; overrule the decrees of the wicked and favor Your children. In Jesus' name, Amen and Amen. Well, I’ll catch you again tomorrow. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
