Mensa Otabil - Break the Power of the Enemy (10/03/2025)
Psalm 2, verse 9: You shall break them with a rod of iron; you shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.
We see the journey from where the nations are raging against the Lord’s anointed. They can’t stand what God is doing, and God affirms what He is doing. Then He says to the anointed, «Ask of Me for the nations,» and the result is when God says, «I give the nations to you.» He says, «You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them to pieces.»
So there are two thoughts here: breaking them and dashing them to pieces. These are all very strong words, and it’s not a light thing; it’s going to be a powerful work of deliverance and victory that God is bringing to His anointed. That verse talks about breaking the powers of evil. Remember I said that the nations represent godlessness or the heathen. It is the breaking of the powers of evil, or powers of darkness, demonic powers, and spiritual powers. God gives us power to break them, and we dash them to pieces. The first is the breaking of the power of evil conspirators, those who conspire with demonic entities to disrupt the lives of God’s people, God’s children; their power is broken.
The third thing is the breaking of the power of the world, the power of the nations, the power of blinding the eyes of people that the enemy allows the nations to walk into. We break that power over the nations in the name of Jesus. As I said yesterday, there is a missional side to this psalm because it speaks about the deliverance of the nations to the gospel of Christ, the deliverance of the nations to worship God, and the deliverance of the nations to accept Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior. That is what He says: «You shall break them to pieces, and you shall dash them to pieces.»
When that happens, two things occur: salvation for sinners and deliverance for the oppressed. Salvation for sinners and deliverance for the oppressed. In the end, when God shows us favor, when God shows us His goodness, God does something for us that is not just for us to feel good and feel vindicated; it is so that His glory will be seen, that people will come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, that people will come to know God as sovereign and accept His power, and that the nations that once rebelled against God now submit to Him and serve Him. Your personal blessing must always lead to the deliverance of captives from darkness into light. You are an ambassador for Christ if you are a believer. God blesses you so you can be a blessing to others, and today I trust that God will use you and your testimony to break the powers of darkness over people’s lives and assure them that the sovereign God rules and reigns in the affairs of man.
Let us pray. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, today I stand in the victory of Christ over all the power of the enemy, and I proclaim deliverance for captives in Jesus' name.» Amen and amen. That is what all this is аbout: God touches you; God uses you to bring deliverance to the world. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
