Mensa Otabil - You Are My Child (10/03/2025)
Psalm 2, verse 7: I will declare the decree. The Lord has said to me, "You are my Son; today I have begotten you." As I said earlier, Psalm 2 is a royal psalm; it's a messianic psalm because it speaks to royalty and the history of Israel. But it also speaks to the coming Messiah, and this statement has a direct bearing on the Messiah. It is a verse that is used several times in the New Testament to refer to Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.
How good it is to know that God has decreed the fulfillment of His plan and that man will not hinder God's plan. We begin the psalm by looking at the heathen raging, and people are angry against God's plan and against the Lord's anointed. God sits in heaven, and this particular verse says that God decrees. He makes His own pronouncement, and the pronouncement He makes in heaven is, "You are my Son; this day have I begotten you." Many times the enemy will want you to feel that his anger against you represents God's anger against you. There are people who believe that they are God, and that when they are angry against you, God is angry against you. If they dislike you, God dislikes you.
So in the midst of all the rebellion, God now speaks to the anointed and He says, "You are my Son." In other words, people may not like you; people are rising against my purposes for your life, but you are mine. You are mine, and this day have I begotten you. On the day that people are opposing my purposes in your life, on the day that people are resisting my will from becoming a reality in your life, on that same day I have begotten you; I have revealed you; I have manifested you. God has a way of honoring you on the day that people have appointed for your shame. On the day that people say, "This is going to be his end," that becomes your beginning.
On the day that people say that everything is going against you, that is the same day that God makes all things work together for your good. On the day that Jesus Christ is supposed to be locked up in the tomb forever, that is the same day that He rises from the grave. Even His own disciples are going to embalm His dead body, but on that day, He rises triumphantly. So man may set a day for your defeat, but God will set it up for your victory. People may set a day for your disgrace and shame, but God will use the same day to honor you and to glorify His name upon your life.
You are a child of God, and God knows His own. If you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and Christ is in your heart, you are a child of God. If you are a child of God, God cares for you, God watches over you, and God protects you in spite of all the rage and conspiracy swelling all around you. God says to you, "The day that has been set for your destruction will be the day for your construction. The day that is set for you to go down will be the day for you to rise up. The day that has been set for you to be mocked will be the day that has been set aside by God for you to be honored."
"You are my Son," says the Lord, "and this day I have begotten you; this day I have honored you." Let's share a word of prayer together. Say with me: Heavenly Father, I know that you love me with an everlasting love. I am confident in your plans for me. In Jesus' name, amen and amen. May the Lord honor you on this day and show you extraordinary favor, overturning every plan of wickedness in Jesus' name. I am Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom—peace and life to you.
