Mensa Otabil - The Lord Will Not Slumber (10/02/2025)

Mensa Otabil - The Lord Will Not Slumber
TOPICS: Word to Go

We’re just two days away from the end of the year and three days from a new year. We want to offer thanks to the Lord for watching over us throughout these 365 days of this year, 2020. Psalm 121:2-3 says, «My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.»

As we start to face a new year, we look up to the Lord and lift our eyes to Him. Many times when entering a new year, we are unsure of what it will bring. After all, a year ago, who thought that this would be the nature of 2020? We don’t know the future; nobody has a clue of what lies ahead. But we know the One who holds the future, and we must hold His hand and trust Him. Even if the road is turbulent and the path uncertain, there is certainty in His Word and in His promises, and that is where we fix our eyes. Our eyes are not on the storms; our eyes are on the Lord who created the storms, the Lord of the storms.

God will help us, and the passage here in the Psalm says, «My help comes from the Lord.» He is our helper. Our help does not come from looking at what is happening with governments, as good as they are, or from what the scientific world offers us, no matter how promising their prognosis may be. Our help must come from the Lord, and it is from Him that every good thing comes. Our helper is the One who made heaven and earth—those are His credentials. He did not only make the heavens and the earth; He sustains them. Normally, when someone says, «I can help you,» you want to find out what they are able to do. What is their capacity? What can they do? If I face danger, if a lion comes against me, can they help? If a snake approaches, can they help? If the earth opens up, can they help? What help can they offer? But the One who says He can help us is the One who made heaven and earth. There is nothing outside His domain, and when He says He is our helper, we must trust Him totally and explicitly.

The Lord is our helper, and He says our helper does not slumber. Each of us has had people promise to help us, and sooner or later, we go to them, and they say, «Oh, I forgot about it; I was busy, and something else came up.» God doesn’t slumber; He doesn’t lose focus or memory of what He is doing. The Lord is your helper, and He will not forget you. The Lord is your helper, and He will not abandon you. The Lord is your helper, and He will neither slumber nor sleep. You can go to sleep; you can rest; you can have peace of mind because God will watch over you. He watches over you by day and by night. As we enter 2021, remember who your help is, what He is capable of, and His commitment never to slumber on the job. That is the credential of our God. Trust Him, and He’ll take you through 2021.

Let’s share a word of prayer together. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, you are my helper for 2021. You never slumber nor sleep. Watch over me throughout the year. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen and amen.» The Lord will watch over you, and He will not sleep on the job. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
