Mensa Otabil - Glory to God In the Highest

Mensa Otabil - Glory to God In the Highest
TOPICS: Word to Go, Christmas

Today is the last Sunday of the year 2020, and we pause to thank God and give Him praise and glory for walking us through this year. Up to now, it’s been quite an experience going through 2020. Each one of us has a story, and so on this Sunday, as we come before the Lord, may His peace surround us, and may we offer to Him the sacrifice of praise, thanksgiving, and adoration.

Luke chapter 2, verses 13 and 14: «And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill towards men.'» We join the host of angels to say, «Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill towards men.» So today, as we remember 2020, it’s been an extraordinary year; it’s been the worst of years and the best of years. There’s been so much to mourn and so much to celebrate, and through it all, God has been faithful. We cannot explain everything that has happened, but we can rest assured in the faithfulness of the Lord, in the goodness of the Lord.

So in all our pains and our sorrows, we give God the glory. In all our uncertainties and all our worries, we say, «Glory to God in the highest.» For all the joys and laughter we have experienced, we give glory to God. For all the miracles and deliverances of 2020, we say, «Glory to God in the highest.» We honor the Lord for everything that has happened. The scripture says, «In all things give thanks,» not for all things, but in all things.

While we are in the situation, our posture is thanksgiving; glory to God. That we are here is celebration enough, and we thank God that He kept us. We pray for those who have lost so much, and we pray for those whose lives have been disrupted, and those who have lost loved ones. May the peace of God surround you and keep you. May the Lord be your strength and your portion, and may the Lord smile upon you and favor you. When we say «Glory to God,» we are giving glory to God, but God doesn’t need glory; He’s already glorified.

The reason we give Him glory is so that He can return glory to us, because whatever we give to God, He gives back to us good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. So as we return glory to the Lord, may the Lord pour glory upon us. As we declare His glory, may He declare our glory. As we celebrate His greatness, may He celebrate our greatness, and may the Lord show kindness to you.

Next week Sunday, when we gather, it will be in a new year, and in just a few days from now, we will be starting our journey into a brand new 2021. May the Lord who has kept us throughout this year continue to watch over us. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and goodwill to all men. Let’s pray. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, You are our Alpha and our Omega. We give You all the glory. We worship You, our Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen and Amen.» My friends, God bless you, watch over you, and keep you. As we approach the coming year, I’ll be with you again tomorrow. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
