Mensa Otabil - Christ Is Born
TOPICS: Word to Go, Christmas

Well, Merry Christmas to all of you. God has been good to us, and we get to see Christmas and celebrate it, honoring the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ today. May the peace that He brings to us rest upon you and your household. Luke chapter 2, verse 7 states, «And she brought forth her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger because there was no room for him in the inn.»

Today we join Christians all over the world as they mark and honor the Incarnation, the coming into being in the flesh of the Lord Jesus Christ, His birth in our world. We come to honor Him who was born the Savior and Redeemer of the world, Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, our Savior and our soon-coming King. The birth of Jesus Christ is the greatest birth ever to take place on earth; nothing compares with it. All the activities leading to it are miraculous. I like the hymn that says the hopes and fears of all the earth have met in the old little town of Bethlehem. On that day when Christ was born, God was holding the hopes and fears of humanity and bringing ours into completion through the birth of His Son.

The Lord God picked a young girl, Mary, to be the mother. She carried the promise delivered in the book of Genesis: «The seed of the woman shall bruise the head of the serpent.» And finally, there is the woman carrying the seed as she gives birth to the seed of the woman, the one who will crush the head of the serpent. By His death, Satan’s dominion was destroyed; it was the beginning of the end of Satan’s power. It ended finally on Easter, but this was the beginning. This child was born in a manger, in a lowly place. God brought His child into the world in Bethlehem, and there was no place for people to receive Him. If the innkeepers had only known who was being born, we can learn a lot of lessons from that this Christmas season.

There are many people who have been born homeless; there are many people with nowhere to lay their heads, many going through difficulty. The birth of Jesus Christ, although great in its salvation message, was also very tough and difficult for the parents on the day he was born. I pray that we would learn to visit somebody, give to somebody, encourage somebody, and lighten someone’s burden, especially young children who are homeless, on the streets, or in orphanages. This Christmas, may we show them the love of Christ—to your nephews, your nieces, your children, and neighborhood children. Just do something—not to save the whole world, but to do something for one child to let them know there is room in your heart for them. May God use you to be a blessing to as many people as possible.

I wish you a Merry Christmas; I wish you a prosperous Christmas. May your family be blessed. May the joy of the Lord rest in your home. May the peace of the Lord rest in your home. May you enjoy heaven on earth. May the goodness of the Lord be your portion. Have a great celebration, and may God’s grace continue to guide you throughout the rest of your life. Let’s share a word of prayer together. Say with me: Heavenly Father, thank you for honoring your promises to us. I receive Jesus Christ into my heart as my Lord and my Savior. I thank you, Father, in Jesus' name. Amen and amen. Well, I’ll catch you again tomorrow. Merry Christmas to you. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
