Mensa Otabil - The Seed of the Woman

Mensa Otabil - The Seed of the Woman
TOPICS: Word to Go

We are close to Christmas, and pretty soon the world is going to celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. As you can see, we are making an effort to bring attention to Christmas. In commemoration of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, we will examine passages in the Bible that refer to God’s promise of Christ or prophecies leading to the birth of Christ. The first one we look at today is from Genesis chapter 3, verse 15: «And I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.»

This is the first promise of redemption that God gave mankind. It happened just after the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They had disobeyed God because the deceiver had deceived them, the serpent. God is now speaking to the serpent and is literally telling the deceiver: «You seem to have won today in Eden, but sometime in your future, this woman whom you deceived is going to produce somebody who will crush your head and will redeem mankind from your slavery and oppression.» So right there in the Garden of Eden, God said that the woman who has been deceived is also going to be responsible for the redemption of mankind. The seed of the woman shall bruise the head of the serpent.

Now, if you look at the passage carefully, God said a couple of things that should interest us. First, He said that there will be enmity between the deceiver and the woman. This means that there will be an antagonistic relationship between women and Satan or demonic forces. I think that may explain, to an extent, why throughout the history of women, they have had to suffer a little bit more than men have suffered. Whether naturally or socially, women have faced a lot of pain in their lives. Secondly, God says there will be enmity between the deceiver’s seed and the woman’s seed. The deceiver’s seed refers to demons, evil spirits, and evil people, while the woman’s seed talks about a particular person who will be born of a woman sometime in the future. There is going to be antagonism between the demonic forces and this seed of the woman. The third thing God says is that the woman’s seed shall bruise the head of the deceiver.

So in this engagement of antagonism, the winner is going to be the seed of the woman because He will bruise the head of Satan or the deceiver. It’s important to note here that in this prophecy, the woman’s seed is referred to as «He» and «His,» which indicates a male. Although, in most cases in the Bible, men are the ones who carry seed, in this instance, a woman will produce a seed. This suggests that the child of the woman will not come through the agency of a male but will be a man who will be called the seed of the woman, and He will crush the head of the devil.

I’m happy to announce to you that two thousand years ago, the seed of the woman was born, and He crushed the head of Satan. That is why we have power, dominion, and authority in His name to destroy the powers of darkness. That seed of the woman is the one we celebrate at Christmas. His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. He was born as a baby, but He redeemed us through His cross. His heel was bruised, but in the process, He crushed the head of Satan. If you know Jesus Christ as Lord, just know the head of the enemy is crushed, and you have victory in Christ Jesus. Let’s share a word of prayer together. Say with me: «Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of deliverance. I boldly declare that the head of the deceiver is crushed in Jesus' name. Amen and amen.» I’ll catch you again tomorrow. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
