Mensa Otabil - When God Sees What We Need (09/29/2025)

Mensa Otabil - When God Sees What We Need
TOPICS: Word to Go

We’re starting a new study this week, and we will continue from Genesis chapter 2, starting from verse 18. And the Lord God said, «It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.» The book of Genesis is very important in our knowledge of God because, as we encounter it, we see God’s unique ways of dealing with us as human beings.

Since Genesis, the first book of the Bible, is also a book of first principles, much of what you read in Genesis chapters 1, 2, 3, and onwards establishes the first principles of God in His relationship with mankind. The stories are very important for us to understand God, and this is one of them. God creates man, but He waits to give man a partner, and that’s a very interesting study in God’s dealings with us. The animals are created; they have their partners. Man is created, but he doesn’t have a partner because God created human beings differently. He responds to our need, and there are things He has made available to us, but He doesn’t give them to us until we sense a need in our lives for them, and then we can ask Him for them. That is the basis of prayer. Animals do not pray; when they wake up, their needs are already met. But for human beings, God wants us to depend on Him, to speak to Him, to talk to Him, to make our needs known to Him.

So, God created Adam complete as a human being, but there was a need Adam needed to discover, and God created the situation that would make Adam discover his need so that he could respond to it. There are things God wants to give to us; there are things He wants to provide for us, but He doesn’t provide them for us instantly. He wants us to have a need for them, and as we would learn later, Adam discovered the need for what God saw that he needed. There are needs in your life that are placed there by God; God knows you need them, and He wants you to talk to Him about them. He wants you to be able to pray about them, and when you do, that is when He responds. So, God knows what you need, but He wants you to go to Him in prayer.

In this passage, God saw that it was not good for man to be alone, but will man also see that it is not good for him to be alone? Because it’s one thing for God to see that you have a need and another for you to see that you have a need. So, when God, for example, thinks that you need salvation, do you also see the need for salvation? He thinks you need it, but do you know you need it? Until you find that you need what God says you need, you won’t go to Him asking for it. And so, for Adam, God shows us that there are needs in our lives that He doesn’t provide for us instantly; He wants us to discover them. It’s in the discovery of need that we go to God in prayer, and He answers our prayer.

May God answer your cry when you need Him and may He supply all your need according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus our Lord. Do you have a need in your life? Let’s present them before the Lord. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, I need You. I need Your help. I need Your presence. I need Your divine supply in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.» Well, my friends, God knows what you need, but you have to need it too, and He will supply your need. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
