Mensa Otabil - God Thinks of Us
TOPICS: Word to Go

God knows us. That’s a very powerful thought to consider. Not only does He know us, He thinks of us. Psalm 40, verse 5: «Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done. Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order; if I declare and speak of them, there are more than can be numbered.» It’s a very interesting psalm. The psalmist talks about the wonderful works of God, and then he discusses God thinking about us. God, the great God who does all these mighty things, has enough time to think of you—that’s a great thought.

Have you ever had somebody you consider very important tell you, «I was thinking of you»? Someone calls you and says, «Oh, I was just thinking of you, so I gave you a call,» or someone powerful tells you, «I just met you somewhere because I was thinking of you last week»? These are just human beings, and when they tell us they were thinking of us, we feel so important. We feel acknowledged; we feel cherished. But God, the Creator of those human beings and of yourself and everything, says, «I think about you.»

The idea that God, in spite of all that He does and all that He is, and the fact that He can think about all the creation that He has made, still finds time to think of us is a very powerful notion. Just to think of it: God thinks of me. One of the greatest fears of every human being is to be forgotten. We don’t want to be in a situation where nobody thinks of us because everyone has forgotten about us. But if even your father and mother forget about you and everyone else forgets you, remember that God thinks of you.

He doesn’t just think of you in a very passive sense; He thinks of you actively. In other words, when He thinks of you, it’s not just an idea of you in His mind, but He thinks of you actively, planning, working, and making sure that all things fit into your life to create a good life. He makes all things work together for our good. So when we are going through difficulty, He’s thinking of us. When we are at a point in our lives when we don’t know the future, He’s thinking of how to lay a path before us. He considers how to open a door for us and how to connect us with the right people. God is thinking of us.

Another psalmist says that He is mindful of us. In other words, His mind is full of us. We are on God’s mind. You are on God’s mind. You are not forgotten; you are present in His mind. When God thinks good thoughts about us, He implements them. For most of us, when people tell us they think of us, we feel scared, especially when we don’t want the person to think of us.

When I was a child and got into trouble, I wanted to go home without my parents remembering that I was present because if they remembered, it could result in some punishment. Many times, when we say God thinks of us, we think, «Oh, God shouldn’t think of us because I’ve done so many bad things.» If He thinks of me, then He’s going to punish me. When God thinks of us, He doesn’t think of us to do us harm. He doesn’t think of us to hurt us; He thinks of us to perfect His will in our lives, to fulfill His purposes in our lives.

So God is thinking about you. He has plans for you—plans for good and not for evil. He’s working out all things to make those plans come to pass. Just rest assured and feel safe in the idea that God knows you and is thinking about you. Let’s share a word of prayer.

Say with me: «Heavenly Father, thank You for thinking about me. Thank You for the plans that You have for me, and help me to recognize Your hand over my life. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.» Well, my friends, God knows you. God is thinking about you. I am Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
