Mensa Otabil - Give Thanks to the Lord

Mensa Otabil - Give Thanks to the Lord
TOPICS: Thankfulness, Word to Go

Welcome to day number 33 and the final week of our 40 Days of Power. Next week, about this time, we’ll have our concluding day of consecration, prayer, and fasting. This week, we are turning our attention to thanksgiving, to praise, and to adore God for what He has done for us throughout these days. We are talking about giving thanks to God.

First Chronicles, Chapter 16, Verse 34: «O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endures forever.» Thanksgiving is a statement of faith in God and an expression of our appreciation for what He has done for us. We believe that in these days, as we’ve waited on Him, the Lord has done so much for us, so it’s appropriate that we return and give Him thanks. In this passage, David expresses one of the enduring attributes of God: give thanks to the Lord because He is good, and His mercies endure forever. Throughout the life of Israel, this was a recurring theme in the expression of confidence in God; He is good, and His mercies endure forever.

So when we thank God, what do we thank Him for? We thank Him because He is good. He is good, and that is the foundation of our thanksgiving. Our faith in God is based on His goodness, and until we see God as good, we cannot trust Him. Nobody can trust someone who is bad. You cannot trust a thief with your goods, nor can you trust a killer with your life. You have to trust God because He is good. He’s a life giver, a sustainer, and a provider. So we trust Him because He is good; He’s not a destroyer of our lives. That’s one of the foundations of our faith: that there is a good God who has good plans for us, who thinks good thoughts toward you. I just want you to know that God’s plans for you are always good, even if the process may not seem to be good. The end will be good, and there is a good end that God has for you.

We thank Him because He is good. We also thank Him because of His mercy. The mercy of God speaks of His kindness, but it also emphasizes that He is faithful and loyal to us. He is good, and He is merciful, and His generosity toward us is shown in the way He demonstrates mercy toward us. There are people who can show mercy for some time, but God’s mercies endure forever. In other words, God will not show you mercy today and be angry with you tomorrow. His mercy endures forever. So as we think about all that the Lord has done for us, we thank Him because He’s good; we can trust Him, and His mercy will never end toward us. I pray that the goodness and mercy of God will follow you throughout this week and throughout the rest of your life.

So let’s pause and give thanks to the Lord for what He has done for us throughout this whole 40 Days of Power. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, I thank You that You are good and Your mercy endures forever. Thank You for all the goodness You have poured into my life throughout this period. In Jesus' name, Amen and Amen.» We thank God for what He has done, and this week is going to be awesome. Let’s give Him all the praise and all the worship. He’s good, and His mercy endures forever. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil, shalom, peace and life to you!
