Mensa Otabil - Blessed Hands (09/28/2025)
We’re still talking about the hands, and we’ve discussed several aspects of them. Not only does God train our hands, but He also puts our hands to work, and our hands must be diligent. Today, we are talking about the blessed hands—the hands that God has blessed. Deuteronomy chapter 28, verse 8 states, «The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving to you.» God is able to bless the work of our hands, and He does bless the work of our hands. In this passage, the blessing is described not just as a blessing but also adds something to it: «The Lord will command the blessing upon the work of your hand.»
This is what we call a commanded blessing. A commanded blessing is a blessing that God speaks into existence. The image we get is from Genesis chapter 1, where there is darkness, and God commands light out of darkness. Just as God brought light out of darkness, He can bring the positive out of the negative. He can bring goodness out of things that are not good. He can bring blessing out of a curse. When God commands a blessing, there may be disadvantages, darkness, or curses surrounding you, but the commanded blessing of God brings out the goodness of God from the situation. Therefore, a commanded blessing is a very powerful thing. It’s a blessing that cannot be overturned; no spiritual authority can override a blessing that God commands over His people.
Do you remember the story of Balaam, who tried to curse God’s people? He couldn’t because he said God had commanded a blessing, and he could do nothing about it. When God commands blessing upon you, nobody can overturn it. Today, I declare God’s commanded blessing over the work of your hands. As God’s covenant children, we are eligible for His commanded blessing. At a time when everything is going down for many people, the Lord has commanded that things will go up for you. When our world is shaken and unstable, the Lord commands establishment in your lives.
When people’s hearts are failing them, the Lord commands the blessing of peace upon you, which is upon the work of your hands. People may complain; they may not see their way through, but you are a child of God, and you are a person who has a commanded blessing upon the work of your hands. God’s commanded blessing on what we do with our hands has no geographical location. You are blessed in the city; you are blessed in the village. The Lord is able to command a blessing upon you in a season of famine and in a season of plenty. There is no place or situation that is beyond the commanded blessing of the Lord.
So today, may we stand ready to receive a commanded blessing upon the work of our hands. May the Lord of light cause our work to shine in the darkness. May the Lord of the earth cause the work of our hands to flourish, even if we are planted in a desert place. May the Lord of the heavens cause the rain to fall and the dew of heaven to rest upon the work of your hands, making you fruitful. Your labor will not be in vain; your labor will be rewarded. God will prosper the work of your hands because you are a child of His, and I speak these commanded blessings upon you in Jesus' name. Amen.
Let’s pray. Say with me, «Heavenly Father, thank You for Your commanded blessing on the work of my hands. I receive it in fullness in Jesus' name. Amen and amen.» The Lord has commanded it, and no one can reverse it. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom—peace and life to you.
