Mensa Otabil - Walking by God's Power

Mensa Otabil - Walking by God's Power
TOPICS: Word to Go, God's Power

Welcome to day number 31 of our 40 Days of Power. Today we are talking about walking by God’s power. Matthew chapter 14, verses 28 to 29: «And Peter answered Him and said, 'Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.' So He said, 'Come.' And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.» Jesus walked on water, and Peter also walked on water—two men: the Son of God and a common fisherman. They did the same thing, and this is how Christ wants us to live our Christian life. He wants us to do what He did: «The works that I do, you shall do also, and greater works than these shall you also do.»

On a very turbulent, stormy night, Peter saw Jesus walking on the storm that was destabilizing his life. He asked to walk on the same water. For a long time, he and the other disciples had been struggling to stabilize their boat on a stormy sea. The sea was very upset, and as much as they tried, the situation just went from bad to worse. Things were not improving. Just then, when they thought it was all over, they saw a figure walking on the water and coming close to them. At first, they were scared, but soon enough they recognized that this figure was not ordinary because He was walking on the situation that was sinking them. He seemed to have power beyond what they were dealing with, so they looked closer and realized it was Jesus.

Peter made a very bold and audacious request from Jesus. He said, «Lord, if it is You, then ask me to come on the water also.» That’s very interesting. He didn’t say, «Lord, if it is You, then speak from where You are and still the storm.» He said, «Lord, if it is You, then help me also to do what You do.» That’s where our Christian life is headed—we are imitators of Christ; we walk in His steps. We do what He did. The power that He has given to us, we put to use. Jesus didn’t hesitate; He told Peter to come. Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on water, and for a moment, the Son of God and a fisherman had the same ability to do the same thing. I pray that will be your testimony—there will come a time in your life when you command mountains to move; you will change situations; you will cast out devils; you will do what Jesus did because the Son of God gives us the power to do what He did.

Of course, Peter doubted a little after that and began to sink, but we can’t take it away from him that when he stepped out in faith, he walked on water and did what Jesus had done. Today, I believe God is inviting you and me to walk with Him. It’s a walk of faith, a walk of victory, a walk of triumph, and I pray that in these 40 Days of Power and the days beyond, you will take a walk with Jesus, and you will overcome every obstacle in Jesus' name. Let’s pray together. Say with me: «Heavenly Father, I accept Your invitation to walk together on the stormy sea. Thank You for giving me the power to overcome every challenge I face in Jesus' name. Amen.» Well, my friends, that’s your portion—walking in victory. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
