Mensa Otabil - There is Hope for Your Future, Says the Lord
TOPICS: Word to Go, Hope

Today, I want to share a very special message with you. It’s a passage in scripture that has had the most transforming effect on my life. I was going through a very difficult phase as a teenager, and life had suddenly become very bitter. It seemed like darkness and uncertainty surrounded me during the most challenging phase of my life at that time. While I was struggling, unsure of what tomorrow held or how it would be, I came across this scripture as a young teenager. It helped me deal with life then and has continued to guide me ever since. I hope that by sharing this passage with you, it will also help you navigate your life.

It’s in Jeremiah chapter 31, verses 16 and 17. It says, «Thus says the Lord: Refrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the Lord, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy.» In verse 17, the first part says, «There is hope in your future, says the Lord.» That verse, verse 17, holds great significance for me. It is almost like my signature tune; it is the foundation of my life. Those words may seem ordinary to many, but for me, they are life-transforming because they helped me at that time shift my focus from what I was going through to where I was going.

Often in life, we are so bogged down by hardship, pain, and tears that we fail to see anything beyond our struggles. But this verse helped me understand that there is a future for me, a hopeful future. So even though what I was going through was painful, I could look ahead. It helped me shift my focus from where I was to where I was going. I want you to know that it’s essential to recognize that there is hope for your future. Although you may be experiencing a difficult situation, there is something ahead of you to hold onto that can inspire you, drive you, and propel you forward.

This awareness helps prevent dwelling in self-pity, making excuses, blaming others, and holding others responsible for whatever is happening in your life. «There is hope for your future,» says the Lord. I especially appreciate the part of the verse that states, «says the Lord.» This assurance is not merely a human being telling another human being that it will be well; this is God affirming that there is hope for your future.

So I came today to encourage you that there is hope for your future. It will be well with you; God is with you. God will lead you, direct your steps, and bring you out in a remarkable way. There is a testimony waiting for you; it has your name on it and has been designed for you. You will declare that testimony, and in 20 years, 10 years, or 15 years from now, you will look back at this season of your life and say, «When the whole world was locked up, that is when my world opened up. That is when my vision expanded. That is when new ideas emerged.» May this season be the beginning of the greatest chapter of your life.

Think of life as hopeful; think of your future as bright. Understand that what you’re going through is temporary because out there, God has a plan for you, and there is hope for your future, says the Lord. Well, I’m past the miserable. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
