Mensa Otabil - The Word of the Lord Creates
TOPICS: Word to Go

The power of God is always around us. As we see His power, we see His world, but most times we don’t pay attention to what we are looking at and the significance of what God has done.

Psalm 33:6 says, «By the word of the Lord, the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath of His mouth.» Psalm 33 celebrates the sovereignty of God in creation. Creation is very awesome; it’s very difficult for us to wrap our minds around the full expanse of the universe. It is just too big for us to conceptualize and make sense of. I think even the greatest of astronomers have struggled with this expanse that we call the universe. Even life on Earth is a marvel; just to see the diversity of creation and to consider the purposeful fullness of everything that God has created is astounding.

Everything seems to have been put in place by God to serve a purpose. The Scriptures tell us that these things do not just happen; they didn’t just occur by chance or by things making themselves and giving themselves purpose. The Scripture clearly states, «By the word of the Lord, the heavens were made,» and the «heavens» here refers to the universe.

From this verse, we learn a couple of things. The first thing we learn is that God’s work is done by God’s Word. When God wants to do something, He uses His word to accomplish it. When He wants to create light, He speaks it into being. When He desires life, He calls it forth. When He wants a human being, He declares it. When He wants an old man to have children, He tells him that He has made him the father of many nations. God’s work is done by God’s Word. He’s able to speak a word that allows a virgin to conceive and give birth to the Son of God.

The second thing to notice here is that «in all their host by the breath of His mouth.» The phrase «the breath of His mouth» refers to God’s Spirit. So God’s work is done by God’s Word, and secondly, God’s work is done by the breath of His mouth, or by His Spirit. His Word and His Spirit create all things. Out of God’s mouth come both words and breath. He’s able to produce word and spirit from Himself. Therefore, when we want to experience the work of God, we know that there must be a word of God and the manifestation of the Spirit of God. If He can make the entire universe by His word and His spirit, He will do something great in your life through His word and His spirit.

This same God, who spoke all things into being, says to you today, «I have blessed you with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places.» That’s a good place to say amen! Well, I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
