Welcome to day number 14 of our 40 days of power. Gradually, we’re making progress as we seek the Lord, wait on Him, and thank Him for His faithfulness throughout these days. Today, we are looking at the topic of obedience. Obedience moves God’s hand.
Genesis chapter 22, verses 16 to 17: «By Myself I have sworn,» says the Lord, «because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.»
Abraham was a man of faith. We all identify him as a person who really walked in faith, and his faith was seen in his obedience. He obeyed when God asked him to leave his native land for a land that He would show him. He obeyed every step of the way, and every time God told him to move from one place to another, Abraham obeyed. However, what we associate as his greatest sign of obedience was when God asked him to go to Mount Moriah to sacrifice his son. God had no intention of killing Isaac, but He wanted to see how far Abraham would go in obeying Him, and Abraham obeyed God. Yet, God delivered him and provided a substitute for Isaac: a ram that had been caught in a thicket. When Abraham demonstrated that level of obedience, God made a commitment to Abraham that He had never made to any human being. He said to Abraham, «I have sworn by Myself.» God made an oath to Abraham and, because He couldn’t swear to anyone higher, He swore by Himself. God was literally pledging Himself to Abraham.
In this profound moment, God made an immutable promise, a promise that will never change. He says, «Abraham, you can be assured, blessing I will bless you.» There is something about obeying God that attracts unparalleled blessings and favor from Him. When God tells you to do something and you do it, sometimes people ask, «How do I know God is telling me?» You would know because the indication will come in your heart. It may be for you to pray for someone, to call someone, or to give something. When you sense it, obey! Just do what God is telling you to do. When you do that, there is something that God commits to do for you, as He committed to Abraham, saying, «Because you have obeyed Me, blessing I will bless you.» In other words, «I will bless you abundantly and multiply you abundantly.»
I believe God, in these 40 days of power, wants to bless you abundantly and multiply you abundantly, but the key is obedience. Whatever He tells you to do, do it. Obey Him, honor Him, and He will covenant permanently with you—His blessing and His multiplication. I trust that God will do for you what He did for Abraham. If you believe that, why don’t we share this word of prayer together? Say with me: «Heavenly Father, help me to obey You every step of the way. Give me a heart that follows and surrenders to Your will. In Jesus' name, Amen.» Well, my friend, the step of obedience starts from today. Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace and life to you.
