Lamentations 3:22–26: Through the Lord’s mercies, we are not consumed because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. This is a very encouraging statement. God’s mercies are new every morning, and every morning, when you wake up, God has a new mercy for you. Jesus taught us to pray, «Give us this day our daily bread.» In other words, every day of your life, there is a daily portion for you. There is something God has set aside for you, and Lamentations states that what God has set aside for you—your daily bread—is a new mercy. It is one of the breads that God gives to you every morning, every day. So there is new mercy for you today.
What is the mercy of the Lord? When the Bible speaks of God’s mercy, what does it mean? It refers to God’s faithfulness to you, His loyalty to you, and His obligation to you—like what a father has for a son. You get up in the morning knowing your son is going to school; he needs food, and you need to drive him or provide transportation. That is your mercy, faithfulness, and obligation. God has an obligation to watch over you every morning. You didn’t just wake up to struggle on your own; you woke up into His mercy. You woke up into His faithfulness. You woke up into His arms. Every morning, He will show you mercy.
But the mercy of God is not the same every morning. He says they are new every morning. This means that what God shows as mercy to me today is not the same as what He will show tomorrow. Today, perhaps all that God does for you is remind you of a song or hymn that encourages you. That’s the mercy God has shown you when you’re going through difficulty. Then, all of a sudden, a song comes into your heart. You sing it, and your heart is cheerful—that’s God’s mercy. Tomorrow, He may have someone call you with good news—that is mercy to you. On another day, someone might share something precious with you, and a need is met; that too is God’s mercy. Another time, a door may open, and that’s God’s mercy to you. Yet another time, He connects you to someone significant. Every day there is new mercy, and it is never the same. He doesn’t repeat His acts in our lives.
So even in your situation, there is new mercy for you every morning. I want you to take time to recognize the mercies of God. Can you see it when God is showing you mercy? Can you identify this as a mercy from God? Can you see the things you go through each day and ponder, «Wow, look at what God did for me; He showed me His mercy»? So this morning, He will show you mercy. Tomorrow morning, He will show you mercy, and the mornings after that, He will show you mercy. The mercy of the Lord fails not; His mercies fail not. There will never be a day when He will not show you mercy. May the mercies of the Lord be evident to you. May you experience His mercies in all that you do. May you live a victorious life. May you be more than a conqueror. May the victory of Christ crown your head. May you persevere and overcome. I’ll see you again tomorrow. I’m Pastor Mensa, and I wish you Shalom, peace, and life.
