Mensa Otabil - God Rewards Openly
TOPICS: Word to Go, Reward

God is a rewarder; He rewards those who diligently seek Him. He rewards those whose confidence is in Him, and He rewards the work of our hands when we trust Him as the supplier of all our needs. When God rewards us, He does it openly and in a way that is clear for people to see His approval over what He has called us to do. However, the Bible cautions us not to seek open rewards; we are to do things in secret, quietly, as God rewards openly. He doesn’t want us to seek men’s approval and acclaim, for He says that if you do, you have received your reward from men. He wants to be our reward.

In Matthew chapter 6, verse 6, listen to the words of the Lord Jesus Christ: «But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.» This is a principle of prayer, but it applies to every area of our lives. We don’t do things with the intention of showing off or gaining men’s applause. Sometimes, even in prayer, people pray to display how powerful their prayers are, hoping to be called prayer warriors. If that is your desire, and you intend for men to see your power, you will not receive any results from God. Similarly, when we do things just to show off, we don’t get anything from God.

But when we do things as unto the Lord, without regard for men’s approval and acceptance, God will reward us openly. When God rewards you openly, it is beautiful; He does it so well and so beautifully that people will look at what has happened to you and say, «Wow, look what the Lord has done!» So, when you pray, remember that God hears you and sees you in secret. There are some of you doing things in secret that nobody knows about. You are interceding, praying, and working hard in secret with confidence, and people don’t see all the effort you are putting in. But one day, God will remove that cover and show everyone, «This is My own who serves Me in secret; I reward them openly.»

I pray that God will reward you openly for every secret service you have offered Him, for every secret offering you have given Him, for every secret prayer you have prayed to Him, and for every secret preparation you have made in your life. May He grant you an open reward, and one day, people will celebrate you. Their celebration is not so important, but it signifies that God has removed the cover and revealed you to the rest of the world. I trust your day of public celebration is coming; your day of public reward is approaching. The time when the world will see God’s hand upon you is just around the corner. Trust, be confident, stay the course, and have endurance. Don’t give up; stay till the end, and God will reward you openly, so that all will give Him praise for what He has done in your life. Your reward is coming; be ready for it. I’m Pastor Mensa Otabil. Shalom, peace, and life to you.
